I have been researching for a new battery and I have come across a BlackPanther or Odyssey batteries and a cheaper Exide 51R-84 (from Kragens). Is it worth shelling out the extra bucks for the BlackPanther or Odyssey?

The Odyssey weighs less. Depending on how performance-oriented you are, that may or may not matter to you enough to make the difference in price worthwhile.

The Odyssey also is alleged to last longer than the stock battery, but the stock one lasts quite a long time if you keep it fully charged. I replaced mine after six years only as a preventive measure; it was still going strong and I had no idea how much longer it might last.

BTW, the Odyssey is the same battery that was formerly called the Black Panther.

I don't have the dry cell battery,.... but when I do get around to getting one, I would read this site first,.... and pay special attention to the links at the bottom (In the section titled: Other SLA Batteries) as they show places where you can get dry cell batteries for WELL below the $100-something peices that are out on the net for the "REAL" thing.

Just an FYI:

I bought the Exide Select Orbital when my previous battery went, and it's been amazing. Even though I've had several times when the car lights were left on (don't ask) for a day or two, I couldn't detect the slightest drop in craking power upon return.

On top of that, the battery charges more quickly, doesn't corrode the terminals, and is lower maintenance than a regular battery. Once you've had to swap the battery once in the NSX, you'll understand why I wanted a battery I wouldn't have to change for a long LONG time.
