I agree.  Most homeowner's policies are pretty specific about what kind of damages they cover - fire, theft, etc.  I don't know if a household accident that damages one of your household belongings is normally covered by a homeowner's policy.


Two other points though:


1. When you're not sure which of two different policies covers something, you can report it to both companies and let them figure it out.


2. If, like most folks, the same company writes both your policies, you can just report it to them and let them figure it out.


I think it's likely to wind up on the auto policy, though.


In any case, I would advise first figuring out how you want it fixed and finding out how much it's going to cost (and doing this right away).  Then, if it's worth putting in a claim, you can report it to insurance (and, if not, don't).
