Ive done a search and been through the FAQ.

I like Mark Bs solution for the sub belt for a 5-pt harness.

Im not crazy about mounting the belt under the seat and bringing it forward around the front of the seat. To me, that pulls the locking mechanism off of my chest. Also, it wouldnt necessarily stop me from submarining; it may reduce it slightly, but until it gets extreme, its not going to stop it.

My question is how unsafe or safe is the 5-pt belt without the sub strap installed?

Is it LESS safe than a stock lap belt if only 4 pts are used?

I wondered the same. Titaniumdave talks a little about it HERE (1/3-1/2 way down). It was enough for me to at least try running it from the bottom of the seat around the front (using the seat-mounted bar). If that really doesn't work I guess I will go ahead and cut a hole in the cushion for the 5th point. :frown:

So I guess Dave has a horizontal bar for the front of the stock seats? Is that it?

Thats not much different than attaching the sub belt to an under the seat mounting point, where there is one (apparently), or attaching it to the lower rear horizontal bar (I dont know if the strap is long enough tho).

I cant find the under the seat mounting point myself in the service manual, but SOS indicates on their site that there is one.

Dali sells the seat bar. Dave will probably pick up on this thread eventually and offer his advice. When I talked to Jeff last week and ordered the bar he told me that the seat would need to be cut (behind the large front seat-bottom bolster) to use the 5th point. I think the SOS site states that their bar/belt is a "no alterations" alternative but that may mean just using the 4pts. Jeff said the 5th pt belt isn't long enough to go from the harness bar around the front of the seat and back to the buckle. I was disappointed to hear that the seat needed to be cut afterall - but I'm going to try the seat bar instead. I don't know of a point on the seat where a 5th point can be mounted.

Perhaps Im misunderstanding what SOS means then when they said this:

"The NSX is equipped with recessed mounting location that is compatible with 5-point harnesses. " on this page: http://www.scienceofspeed.com/produ...NSX/ScienceofSpeed/harness_bar/harness_belts/

Maybe they mean where the bolt can be installed without further supporting the floor pan.

Thanks for that link. So the seat has to be removed to get at it, which makes sense given that if the bar is attached to the forward seat mounting bolts, and the seat is rearward, they would be useless.

Yeah, I believe that this quote from the website is talking about the point where the sub belt can be mounted to the floor pan of the vehicle. It isn't in the owner's/service manual I don't believe, but appears to be positioned there for just that purpose. If you look under the vehicle you should see that recessed, rectangular (if my memory is correct) area that sits directly underneath that seat.

*There are many opinions on mounting harnesses in the car, specifically regarding mounting locations/angles and safety in rollover without a roll cage. There is a nice discussion of some of these factors here: http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18729
