Stuck bolt

So I attempted to take off my OEM front plate mount today.

The upper left (passenger) bolt is loose but will not come out. The others remove and replace very easy. I can get it to tighten somewhat down, but it will not come out. Ive tried with pressure IN and pressure OUT and tried feeling in the back to see whats up. No luck.

Anyone ever have this problem? Id probably just RIP it right out but I need the mount for the SOS plate mount I want to put on.

HELP :frown:

Sorry, was just reading about the replacement of an exhaust and thought it was your thread! Good luck with that!

Go to auto parts store and pick up a can of PB Blaster. Its a powerful penetrating catalyst that will do the job. Spray some on, let it soak in for a few minutes and then remove the rusted nut. Remember to pick up some anti-seize at the parts store for when you put the other exhaust on! Good luck!

Thanks but two things:

1) This is not for my exhaust

2) The bolt is not rusted. It turns fine it just won't back out all the way. Hence, its stuck in there.

I beleive what you are dealing with here is a "Nut Clip" or "Plate Nut". It is a "C" shaped clip with a nut connected to it. It is used in slots in the body (this case the bumper) to allow parts to be bolted to plastic parts. On page 20-48 of the online service manual, there is a blow-up "Spoiler Installation", and it shows the clip, called a "Plate Nut". I am not 100% sure you can get to it with the bumper on, but I really do not know.

Anyway it is probably spinning, and may have dislodged itself from the plastic slot.

Good Luck,

Thanks Larry. Thats exactly what it is, however when I put my fingers on it and try to unscrew the bolt, it does NOT appear to be spinning. Thats the weird part. Its like the threads got stripped.

Those can be fun.

Sometimes you can get lucky with a fast moving power tool to ' zip ' it out when it get like that. Getting something behind where the ' nut ' is to pin it in place just for a couple seconds as you use a power tool also helps.

Good luck. It could come out with five minutes of work -or- 3 hours.
