Hi everyone:

I sent off my trunk struts to be rebuilt by Frank Irvine at Strutwise. I just got them back, and I'm wondering if the bill is correct. I was charged $86.56 CDN, which is about $68 USD. Does this seem right? I sent Frank a message, but for some reason, from prior posts, I though it was around $20 or so for each strut, not $35.

I couldn't find anything using the search about the actual cost, so if anyone has used Frank, please let me know what you paid. It's not a huge deal, but still almost double what I was expecting.

Thanks,

Todd

ak - thanks for the reply....I must have had my numbers crossed with something else.

chumch - I sent them December 23rd, he had them fixed and sent back to me on the 30th, and I received them today (12th). The mail was slower than usual due to the holidays. Frank kept me in the loop with e-mails to let me know they were coming.

I installed them today and they are super strong - I can't imagine they were even this good brand new. I would highly recommend his services. Total shipping was only around $5. Install is a breeze, even for a loser like me (although my wife said she expects to see the trunk lid fly off on my next drive!)

Just curious if there is anyone in the US that can do repairs on the rear hatch/trunk struts besides Strutwise or even buying from the Dealership  I am thinking about the time to wait because of customs and distance from VA. Can't forget about shipping either. Seems like something like this can be rebuilt in the US. Anyone know the lb/ft rating for each strut? I am sure they could be rebuilt or remade stronger than OEM. Just trying to see what other options are out there...

I don't know of anyone who repairs them in the States (maybe someone else does) but you can certainly buy new ones from any Acura dealer. According to the Sunnyside Acura website, the trunk struts ("STAY, TRUNK OPENER") for a '91 NSX are part number 74872-SL0-013 and list for $63.73 each. Sunnyside sells them for $54.17 each, Acura Carland sells them for $53.68 each, and you can probably get an even lower price from places like Niello or Goodson with your discount if you're a member of the NSX Club of America.

There is another option....I got a quote from East Lift Springs in FL for the rear hatch and trunk struts for the following prices:

rear hatch....................trunk
2 @ $39.27 ea.............2 @ $42.72 ea
10 @ $32.86 ea...........10 @ $36.79 ea
20 @ $26.50 ea...........20 @ $31.62 ea

They can replicate the OEM struts to spec. Only thing missing is the pressure rating for each. Does anyone know the pressure ratings for each

Thanks Nsxtasy!

Thanks for that info Nsxtasy!
I just talked to Frank in B.C. two days ago and his prices have gone up! Each shock is now $40.00 Canadian to fix, which is about $29.00 US at this time.
He does not drive an exotic, just a new Impala!
He does appreciate our cars!
West Side Acura in Edmonton lists the Engine hatch stays at $164.80 each and the Trunk Stays at $ 104.28 each Canadian dollars. Ouch!
So The $40.00 looks attractive for us up here!
I also have a great source for stays(struts) but I kind of dont want to invent the wheel here. The stock stays have special end connectors on them, especially the truck ones.

I'll be the first one to have it done...just need the pressure ratings
