hello all,

well, i had some concerns about the integrity of my motor. nothing that was serious, but thought it lacked a little 'zip'. and it has high miles. so, had larry b. check it out and run a quick compression test. found that the front 3 cylinders read fine, but the back three read extremely high. like 280 high. he did several tests to the same results. we have reason to believe that the timing could be off, but would that attribute to higher compression readings? doesn't make sense really. could it be a ring problem? broken oil rings pluging and not allowing any blowby thus resulting in higher compression? am i talking out of my arse here?

the car has 96k and the car is a little sluggish. especially in the v-tec range. which larry thought could be the timing on the exhaust cam. (larry, you out there? maybe you can elaborate)

has anyone experienced such strange phenomena?

thanks!

Hi James!!,

Well, so we are clear on the numbers 205, 200, 210, 230, 230, 230 1-6 respectively.

I have seen 230 before and that is not my concern, I am thinking the rear bank has the exhaust cam off a tooth, which is the typical error made during a t-belt installation, and the rear bank is relatively low.

This would be clearer to me if the exhaust was stock, but since I had never heard the center exit Taitec, I had no comparison.

Once we can get together again, it will be very easy to see once we have some time and get the valve covers off to confirm.

I would be very interested if MarkB is able to comment.
