93, 48k....Was changing spark plugs today, all looked great(clean)except when I pulled the coil out of the rear drivers side cylinder, there was clean motor oil all over the coil plug, my plug socket was covered with clean oil. The spark plug was tight and all other bolts were tight. You can eat off of this motor, no signs of leaking. It appears the plug hole above the plug was full of oil. Please explain!!!

Do you change your own oil?

Jim, I do change my own oil....oil fill hole is on the front of the motor...ideas?

My first idea is that the annular-shaped gaskets/seals that seal the spark plug cavities are damaged or not sealing properly.

These are located on the underneath side of the valve cover.

Interesting choice of terms

, but I agree, it sounds like the round valve cover seal for that plug is either damaged, skewed, or missing. Not a big job and slightly easier than if it were on the rear bank.

It is on the rear bank......

Weird though that the oil is clean, if there's a leak, you would expect there to be 'dirty' oil, though the color is depending a lot on the color of the oil when new.

You had an overfill?

It could be that all of his oil is "clean" looking. I know mine is when I drain it.

PS: Was "annular" such an odd word?
