Stimulus Package OK'd by Congress

You know just "talk" of doing such a thing is already stimulating the economy. Im sure theres more than one person out there buying stuff because they assume they will be getting a check soon. Funny thing is people fall for this Psychological B.S. haha
Im sure the Govt will get back what they hand out. One way or another.

When they did this back in 01, I remember I didn't get a check in mail when everyone else did, but I did get an extra $300 the following spring when I was filing my tax return.

I don't think any higher-income households will have to pay out of pocket to cover this. They might not get any rebates either but seriously, if you have a six figure income, $600 can be treated as useless... I mean, look at all those iPhones out there! A useless $600 blown into the wind! :)

But on a serious note, I couldn't find any place online that clearly outlines the details of this proposal. The story keeps changing. Senate OK'd this but they cut it down to $500 per individual... Jerks!

Thats true...people will spend before they actually get the money. Probably a lot of loan places are offering to give you cash now on your expected refund...except at 10%-20% interest. Why do people fall for that stuff? Everyone wants it now and pay later.

I love how they say anyone who makes over 75k/150k isn't "working class". If they wanna make the handout fair, they should give everyone 2% back what they paid in taxes. Those people who paid no taxes will get their fair share.

Oh I love it. You need to run for office.

600 is not worthless. it's 600 more I have to make and give away to someone who would key my car if they had the oppurtunity to. Thats the BULLSHIT part about this. BTW average income here is less than 30k so almost everyone here is going to get the check. I am currently loading money in the pocket of my buddy who does buy here pay here cars. I want some cars on his lot before the checks get here. I am going to get my 600 dollars back!

If this package was clearly outlined it wouldn't have come from our government... We're like mushrooms, keep us in the dark and keep feeding us s*#t...

$600 is not worthless to you and me... I'd love $600 right now. But if you make $150+K a year... maybe it's not worthless but it's definitely not a very sagnificant amount either.

edit: Here's an example of all of our tax dollars hard at work!

"LOS ANGELES, California - A police motorcade the length of a football field escorted troubled pop star Britney Spears to a Los Angeles hospital early Thursday to get her some help, a law-enforcement official told CNN...... The North Hollywood Police Department sent about eight officers to Spears' hilltop house in Studio City, California, about 12:55 a.m. Thursday...... The group at Spears' house included plainclothes officers, motorcycle police, ambulance crews and some police "brass," the official said. It took the better part of the day to arrange the transport plan, the officer said..."

Wouldn't it be cheaper to hold her head under water til the bubbles stop??

No, Radiologists are the true human mushrooms!

Lol, thats right I'm sure some "mortgage" company somewhere will lure the homeless and welfare recipients of a 1000.00 rebate check to use it as a downpayment on a 1.5 million dollor house in Glen Oaks lol.

This was funny! Good one, Doc.

Don't we have to pay back 30% in 2008.lol So giving money away will slow recession and help GPD lol

For every $1,000 above $75,000, you will need to deduct 5% of the rebate.
For example, you are at $76,000, you will receive a rebate but it will not be $600. Your rebate check will be $570. Assuming, you are single status.

So if your income is $95,000, you are screwed

not really, youre making a decent amount of money haha...

C'mon guys, how can any American be against giving tax money back to the people? You think the gov't can spend it better? I'm for anything that puts money back into the hands of the individual for them to do with it what they wish.

If the crack smokin' bum get $300, so what. He's going to use it to buy something... eventually it gets filtered back through the system making everybody happy. The velocity of that money is what is important in his case.

I am just pissed because I dont get the stimulus, nor the child tax credit. did i mention my wife does not work? there you go, you know my floor lol....
LOL, yeah... I don't qualify either from what I've read here, but $600 is meaningless to probably 99% of the people on this forum. The important part take away is that money is going back into the hands of the individuals... I'll vote for that any day.

So I'm assuming this won't reflect upon my taxes I just turned in since I didn't even see it mentioned in my 1040. Anyone know these greenbacks will make their way into my pocket?

2007, I didn't work since returning back to college fulltime so I was tax exempt all year long. I did pay $37 into taxes though lol, that I'm getting back w/ 1 dependent. So $600 or 900 or whatever would go a LONG way for this starving student at the moment.

In my honest opinion, out of principal it bugs me.....yes, $600 is meaningless really, but it should benefit everyone without excluding folks who contribute most to taxes. Also, $600 will be spent faster by someone who sees it as an insignificant amount...

my 2 cents.

You will get a form letter soon from the IRS telling you about your possible rebate...this Government mailing reportedly cost $42,000,000!

I completely agree, the principle is wrong. Warren Buffet should get just as much of a rebate and crack whore molly. However, it is a step in the right direction IMO.

LOL....this cracks me up. Is this why I owe $20k this year? lol

$20K?!?! Lucky you! I paid over $110K in taxes this year. It's more than I made the first 4 years out of college combined!!

Unless that's what you had to pay that at the end of the year to get square. In which case, I would recommend paying quarterlies. The IRS doesn't like such a large payment and will jump on your case. Ask me how I know.

That is what I am talking about.
