Stereo Installation & Double Din Modification - Lots of pics!

ive always wondered, what is the purpose of the centre speaker between the driver and passenger? which sound channel goes to that speaker?

I wanna know what you did to get all the engine noise out of the sound as you ran the wires next to the alternator?

I tried that same run as its the easiest path and got engine noise like no other.

ripped it all out and ran it down the not so easy path of the driverside.

then changed my mind after a day and ripped it all out and wired it all inside the cabin. then said f-it I want only OEM LOL

I might change back one day but I hardly even listen to music while I drive anyway

The center channel was designed for the original car-phone. When the phone is not active, it acts as a phantom channel between R&L. Similarly to how the center channel works in a Dolby Pro-logic system.

thank you sir!

good ol dolby pro-logic surround decoding from hifi stereo vcrs from back in the 80s!

Late to the party here...

You know, interesting enough I had a massive amount of of whining when I completed the installation. After trying to isolate it and failing, I ended up putting a ground loop isolator which "patched" the issue. That was until it failed. The odd part here is when I removed the loop isolator, all of the humming completely disappeared.

Stranger things have happened, so I am wondering if one of the additional grounds I with the GLI resolved it and I never needed it in the first place.

Nicely done!!! Where did you get the 02 vanlence and side skirt painted? How do you like the color matching? Did u get the OEM ones?

Yep. All OEM. Paint work was done by Bells Auto in Huntington Beach. First time out the paint match was off so I brought it back. They did it over again and its probably a 98% perfect match. They just matched my rood as well and nailed it.

Holy bejezus that is impressive work. What's the ballpark cost of all those components?

Also, would you recommend the Honda Graphite Grey paint for restoring the finish on a bubbling console trim? Is it a close enough match to the original finish? Honda wants too much for a replacement trim panel. Thanks!

Everything together was about 6 - 800$ and well worth every penny. The car sounds great.

I would not recommend that Honda Graphite Grey to match the OEM console. Its close but completely different. If it was mine, I would strip it and repaint the entire console.

Hope this helps.

Yes, thanks very much!

Awesome thread! I'm doing the exact same thing soon. I'm cutting up a spare center console and only replacing HU, so it should be an easier upgrade route.

Used this thread to DIY my double din. Turned out great. Thanks for the info

I'd love a few more pictures of how you hooked into the fuse box to power the amp...

The OEM finish on the dash is really something special. Nowadays everything is cheap plastic.

Used Loctite Epoxy to build up the sides. Pretty good stuff. If you use it dont let it sit out to long before molding it. You can pretty much lop it on there and get a basic mold right away.

I will be updating this thread with new pics later on this week. Just have to finish mounting the amps in the trunk. Overall, I was nervous cutting into the dash but it turned out good. I am really enjoying the NSX. Next up is the Nav pod and I am getting the itch to paint my black roof red to match the car but we shall see. I just got it out of the body shop today. Here is a quick pic with my iPhone.
