I'm going to take these units out of my '92 for repair soon. Is it necessary to remove the plastic consloe cover/cig lighter/ashtray/ etc out first to get these out?

There was a nice link w a set of instructions floating around Prime in the past, but the link now demands $4.95 before releasing the directions.

Hi Doc308,

Drop me a note in e-mail. You do have to remove the console, but you can leave the shift boot in place if you are careful, and just set the console aside. I will only charge $.02:):).

My $.02 LOL.......................................

The picture of the console removal is a little deceiving - it comes out complete with the shift boot attached. Start by removing the shift knob (push down on the boot then unscrew the knob); set the hand brake lever as high as you can to ease removal of the console.
to remove the armrest, you need to lift the pad to expose the hidden screws - there is a small detent in one end of the pad which you can lift with a small flat-blade.
