I just bought a 93 with 52000 miles and I noticed that there is a little play in the steering wheel. I saw some previous threads that suggested jacking up the front and trying to rock the wheels to see if there is any loseness, which I will do tomorrow. My question is: what is the fix if it is possible to rock the wheels? If they don't rock, what would be the next step?

How much play is "a little"? According to the service manual there should be 5cm or about 1/4 inch of play. It goes on to say that if the play is more than this to check all steering components. Doesn't go into further detail. I would inspect the tie rod ends.

Turns out that the tie rods were fine. The problem appeared to be in what I'm told was a loose universal joint at the end of the steering column. It was tightened and lubed and now all the play is gone! The steering is perfect now.
