Starter not cranking....

So I finished installing my big bore tb last night and putting my BBSC back in (had to be moved slightly to get the tb out). Went to start the car and the started started to turn then made a little bit of a weird noise, then nothing.
Tried again and nothing. Tried again today...nothing. Everything else in the car is working, I tried jumping it. I can hear clicking under dash when I try to start it and the clicking is different when I depress the clutch vs. when I don't depress it, so I am thinking the clutch switch is fine.
I looked at all the fuses in all 3 boxes and they all look fine. Could it be the main relay? The started itself? Car has 50K on it, seems premature for a starter. My only other thought is some coolant leaked down from when I disconnected the TB. Not sure if that would have gotten anywhere is shouldn't have, but cant imagine it getting anything more wet than something would if you were driving in heavy rain.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the main relay but odd that it would pick the very moment you did the work. You sure everything got plugged back in? Maybe an error is coding you out.

I was able to push start it down the driveway and fired right up. I let it idle for a while til it was warm, then backed it back into the garage, shut it off....tried to start it again, nothing. I've looked at everything underneath and on top. Nothing left unconnected. Its strange that it sounded like it was trying the first time I went to start it last night.

Main relay "clicks" as I turn the car on. No click when I turn the ignition to start the car....should it? I tried tapping it, no change. Tried tapping the starter a few times with a hammer (old school trick) nothing. Basically seems like there is no power getting to the starter. I really didn't touch anything in that area when doing the work. All the grounds around the car seem nice and snug.

Haha, that is a old school trick. What that does is helps get past the dead spot of the armature. Your not that old .

Wish i could check the click for you but my car is 700 miles away. You could try resetting the ecu by pulling the clock fuse and then replacing it to see if you get that same sound as the first time. You are using the oem ecu correct?

I'm running an AEM EMS. Just not sure what the issue is. I'm going to try taking it for a cruise now and see if that changes anything. Just had the wife push me down the driveway again. She is thrilled.

Could be the ignition switch. Have the wife hold the switch to the start position and check the voltage at the starter. If no voltage, it's not the starter .

When I turn the key to start it does everything else like you would expect...stereo and climate control turn off to give the starter the power..and I can hear clicks under the dash, just nothing behind me. I'll try to check the voltage tomorrow. Took the car for a drive and everything else about it is great, but still no start when I got back.

Ok, is the clicking coming from the behind the glovebox?

Remove fuse #7 from the dash fuse box and check at the fuse connection for voltage with the ignition switch in the start position.

Fuse #7 and the starter solenoid are both powered from the starter cut relay. If you see voltage getting to fuse 7 and in turn the solenoid, it removes the starter cut relay, immobilizer control unit and the clutch interlock switch from the things to you need to check.

The starter cut relay is behind the glove box.

oops, start position on the ignition switch, not run

Think I just found my problem! Same connection as this thread...

Just located it and it is disconnected. Must have happened when I was putting the bbsc mount back in, its right next to it. Now I either have to shrink my hands or remove the blower and bracket to get to it, because its a tight fit as it is!

Yup, that was it! Pulled the blower out of the way and got it back connected. Tried the key and starter kicked right away. Now, just have to put the blower and intake back together. Thanks for the help!
