For the second time in 2 weeks, my car went "CLUCK" when I attempted to start the engine. After a second try, the car starts fine.

Is this symtom signs of the starter going bad? How should I prepare for the failure?

Thanks.

Check your battery cable tightness.

Several months ago I came out of the store and when I turned the key......nothing. Wiggled the positive cable just a smidge and it fired right up. Went straight home and tightened the bolt. No problems since.

I had a similar problem didn't check the battery cable, Basically it was just happening a little every now and than until it didn't want to start at all, unless it was push started. I know it wasn't the starter because i could jump it from there so i put in a new starter relay and that seems to have fixed the problem for now. Let me know though if you still have the problem maybe i can help you out.

Mine goes Cock a doodle doo, in the a.m. to get me started..... Maybe your rooster had a sex change....

Sorry, just had to. :)
Looks like the good ideas have been posted

That's a normal problem. It ended up being a loose wire, but the wire wasn't anywhere near the battery. I don't know which one it was. All I can say is, don't take it to an Acura dealership. The first time I had this problem, I paid for a $1000 starter motor/install. I had the same problem 2 weeks later. Needless to say, I was pissed. It probably wasn't the motor at all. Mike at MCA Motorsports, 305-251-5095, might be able to help

I wanted to chime in here- the NSX seems very picky when it comes to the battery connections. Over the years mine has done this to me several times. Each time I cleaned the connections with a wire brush, coated posts with dielectric (I think I spelled that right...) grease, and made sure all the connections were tight. World of difference. It may be that the battery seems kinda small for a high perf motor, but thats just a guess.

same thing happens to my car! sometimes out of no where it cranks but doesnt start..then out of no where it works..WHATS WRONG!!! AND MY BATTERY IS FINE!

yeah i don't think your talking about the same problem here. I think what he is talking about is the fact that he turns his car on and nothing happens other than a clicking noise. If your car is turning over and not starting thats a different problem. At least thats what i got from your post. Oh and by the way i know the noise your hearing and i don't think its the starter making that noise though. let me know if you figured it out

hey Jerry,
My N was doing the same thing for awhile now and I did all the checking and tightening the wire, but here and there the car just goes click. pissed me off. I just went over to my local starter shop and he took off the starter. He checked it out and said that my errr "contacts" were bad. correct me if imma wrong, but i think he said contacts are aka brushes in the starter. $140 later I have basically a new starter thats sounds and feels new. Hey, for 140, I never have to worry about the thing not starting in front of all the people in front of the club. good luck
p.s. i feel for you matt. peace

well if it helps i was looking around my car, and i found there was a draw from the battery, and as a result the starter wasn't getting enough power to turn over, so I would recommend check for a draw, and make sure everything is getting power.
