Let start off first by saying Ferrari...well you don't have to say much..it's a Ferrari and they are beautiful cars that command attention and are a presence regardless of where they are (though personally if given the choice I'd go Lamborghini). But for a car like the NSX that has undergone only very subtle changes over it's 20 years in existence...it definitely stands the test of time. We are lucky people to own these cars people...they are a presence in their own right. Check the pic:

for sure. the only thing i like about modern cars is performance and comfort. i simply love my old cars, though.

IMHO the NA2 was a nice update to the NA1 (I have a /94 Formula Red). Not that I would'nt take a Ferrari if I could afford one but I actually find the NSX design to be "cleaner". What I miss most in mine are indeed some of the modern conveniences....heated seats, integrated bluetooth, memory seats, a compass in the mirror, better stereo, etc. However, the car is a joy to drive and you sure don't see yourself coming and going like Porsche, BMW, etc.

Best,
Jeff

i agree completely, my brother really wanted me to get a 911 as he has one and i was close to getting one as i do love porsches, but wanted something that you dont see everyday. (sorry sean b)
i get asked alot if mine is a new car......
that speaks for itself.

No offence taken.
NSX appeal goes well beyond its scarcity. Love my 1 of 50 in Canada GT3s to though.

All those modern conveniences add weight, complexity and potential failure points to the car (ask any German car owner what that's like). Keep the NSX simple!

It really sucks having all of those modern conveniences in my 996TT Cab without any problems. It's actually almost pushing me to the brink of selling my 1994 NSX. The NSX really starts to show it's age when comparred to a newer German car.

I'll have to change my signature to Sean Bal...looks like swbatte, having been a member longer than me has the rights to Sean B :)...maybe Sean B2....on the topic of modern conveniences I kind of place myself in the middle. I love the GT3 (especially the RS) but age catches up to a lot of these cars a lot sooner than it has to the NSX. The 02+ models (like mine) don't look dated at all on the outside... I feel they look better than a lot of the more modern vehicles. I've pulled up beside M3, M6s, even a GT2 and people have checked out my car more than all of the above listed. The interior I agree needs a little face-lift...so there's where the aftermarket comes in :)...with a little investment and the right workmanship!

Can't disagree Doc -- the simplicity of the NA1 is nice but so are the modern conveniences. I take my /94 for what it is -- very high tech and a rolling piece of art/engineering tour de force of the /90s. I haven't driven a modern Porsche and frankly I'm a bit afraid to for fear that I would really, really want one! For me the NSX has plenty of charm but as I've privately discussed with some of our fellow enthusiasts, there are plenty of other cars (obviously the P-car being one) that are very worthy modern alternatives to the NSX. Having said this, I will stick with the NSX for the time being as it fits my budget and my Honda-esque less is more philosophy. In the 13,000 miles I have put on over the past almost 2 years (I now have 31,400 miles) I've been totally shocked at how trouble free the car has been and how inexpensive to maintain it has been.

Best,
Jeff

For a few hundred dollars, heated seats, integrated bluetooth, stereo, and even the compass in the mirror can all be done after market. The memory seats are a bigger mod, but I am sure somewhere there is an after market supplier, if you really need that. Personally, I am the only driver. my memory seats work perfectly. memory entry of one.

Well, maybe Porsche builds them better than BMW (though according to my buddy with his 2005 Boxster S I'm not sure). My 2008 M5 was a technological tour de force. Bluetooth, automtically folding mirrors, hands free everything, voice activated everything, iDrive (ugh), active seats that grabs yours sides when you corner, and that magical M button that switches you from a mere 400 hp to 507 hp. Everything is glorious until you get the check engine or check tranny message on the central display. Worst part was everything had to be serviced at the stealership since there's almost nothing you can do yourself aside from add wiper fluid. Love the honest simplicity of my 90's era cars ;)

i have gotten rid of my modern cars for two early 90's cars and i'm not missing anything i can't fix via aftermarket. i am perfectly happy with what i have... i'll be enjoying a F430 and GT3 RS this weekend on the track, though, so we will see. lol.

the GT3rs is certainly not one of those cars with multiple comfort gadgets, it is made to be simple, reliable and FAST on a track.

much closer to the nsx than a M5 or 911 turbo

The NSX is still a technological marvel in regards to performance and aerodynamic design. It is a thorough bred sports car that does exactly what it's supposed to do and has all the tools it needs to do it. If I may spin the topic of this thread a bit, i feel that the NSX still surpasses a lot of modern cars in the "looks" department (02+ especially...I know some folks feel the pop-up lights of the pre 02s give it a dated look). Like to hear people's view on that.

Hey

the nsx in my eyes is still the car that still looks good even after all these years...i see too many ferraris and Porsche on the road it seems..but everytime i see an nsx on the road it still turns my head....timeless car

I agree with most of the above, especially that visually the NSX body has held up really well. With some nice touches like skirts, NSXR wing, wheels and some suspension work, I still think that the cars look awesome (NA1 or NA2).

The interior, kinda bleh, but there are easy things you can do to update it like cluster rings and a NAV Pod. I think that Peter's interior is as amazing as any new car you can get these days!

But in my old age I hear you guys on the creature comforts. But you cant have it all, and your NSXs sure have a lot.

Agreed. However, I tend to think that we don't "own" our NSXs but are merely their caretakers for a period of time until the car gets passed down or sold to another caretaker. :)

Best thing is to have a garage full of cars for every occasion. An old classic, a classy modern GT, a loaded family hauler, and a comfy cruiser for going out to dinner (be it sedan, coupe or SUV depending on your lifestyle).

The cool thing (and a testament to the goodness of the NSX's design) is that its still being compared to cars several auto-generations later. The sad thing is that my car started life as my cool modern GT and slowly falling into the old classic category :(

Classics are great because classics will always hold a sense of pride of ownership. Look at the guys with the old school muscle cars. Those cars still stand out and their owners are still obsessed with those cars. They will always be cool cars to own...which is more than you can say about say the 2011 BMW M3. That car will show it's age and disappear into distant memory. The NSX will be a car that people will be restoring and enjoying even 20-30 years down the line.

imo the factory na2 nsx design can more then hold its own against all its modern day german/japanese rivals.

the car is timelessly beautiful.

all the modern day anemities (other then perhaps the memory seats) are relatively simple aftermarket modifications. the dated interior (esp that steering wheel) , seats, stereo system (and bluetooth gps technology) can be swapped out as well.
