When I first start driving & when stopped wthin the 1st block or two, I hear a squealling noise coming out from under the front hood---sounds like a loose belt-----& then goes away until the car sits again for awhile--- any ideas??
something to do with the abs? or coolant flow? 1991 model

thanx, dana

After I exercised it mine a few times, it has never done it again.

exercise you say? drive the car on a road get your car up to about 35MPH and try and lock-em up, I mean pretend a child ran in front of your car. do this like 4-5 times and thats exercising your ABS.

the noise will go away for a few years

Clarification: It's normal for the noise to show up briefly when you first start driving, but not after that (unless you activate the ABS somehow, like on a stop on a slick surface). If the noise shows up more frequently than that, then you may have a stuck ABS solenoid, which can be "unstuck" by exercising the ABS as shawn describes. (Unless you're on wet pavement, you have to really STOMP on the pedal to get the ABS to kick in - it's not easy.) And even if you're not having problems, it's a good idea to exercise the ABS every once in a while, to keep the solenoids from getting stuck.
