Here's a new one...I wanted to get this posted in case someone is going crazy trying to find it (like I was) and does a search.
I'm helping a new NSXer with his car and this was the last thing we needed to address. The sound is just like a worn bearing...A/C belt tensioner type. Very loud and annoying at initial start-up and slowly quiets down, but does not totally go away. After listening all over the engine with a rubber tube, it was determined that the sound was coming from beneath the front of the engine. We brought the car to a place with a lift, and with the owner in the car revving it...continued listening with the tube. The sound was loudest around the heat shield on the exhaust manifold. Putting pressure on the shield did not change the sound so we removed it - PITA. But....found the source of the sound. Three of the upper exhaust nuts were loose...very loose. The squealing was the exhaust leaking. Tightened the nuts and the sound was gone. Like I said, I'm only posting this in case someone else experiences this sound...I swear it sounded exactly like a squealing bearing and would come and go as the engine RPMs changed.
