Squeaks and Rattles Oh My!

Hi,

I have a number of squeaks and rattles which I've had a terrible time debugging. I've looked at the FAQ section under what's that noise, and still have quite figured out where my noises are coming from.

One noise I hear is a creaking from the back center area of the car towards the right of my head. Another is a resonant "humming" from the same area.

I can't figure out if something in the engine is loose that causing these noises, or if it is indeed just trim pieces in the car which are loose.

In general, I find the car particularly creeky on cold days. The front dash creaks alot, although the lubrication suggestion in the FAQ has helped alleviate the problem dramatically.

What do you folks to prevent your interior from creaking? Do you have any idea what's causing my current creaks? Its driving me nuts! I'm thinking about taking it to the dealership and having them look for this if I can't get it solved soon.

Thanks in advance!

When my car is cold I get some "spring sqeeking" when going over uneven surfaces. Not sure what it takes to get rid of this. I have eibach springs / bilstein shocks and didn't have this before the upgrade.

Not so bad I want to work on it but if someone else had a suggestion that was easy I would try it.

Good luck

I had the same creaking/squeaking problem when I installed Eibach springs and Koni shocks on a 300ZX I had. The ride got much harsher and I couldn't feel any real handling improvements. I finally decided the "upgrade" was not worth it and went back to stock springs. All the problems just went away.

In my case once the windshield was replaced the dash area squeaked more. Also if you own a targa it takes more routine care to keep it all lubed up,as there is more cowl shake than coupes. If things don't respond to the usual maintanance you could reasemble the dash/sill area and place felt shims between pieces that squeak,or do what I did and install a friggen loud exhaust, problem solved!

on my old 95-T i had a groaning noise coming from behind me in the firewall somewhere... as it turns out, noises are fairly common. the fix was to work the area with a mallet and block to, uh, "gently tap" out the trouble spot. in my case it worked fine. hopkins acura did the work.
