Driving home from LAX on 91 fwy at 1:30am through Buena Park in the Benz... There was a RHD NSX-R in the Eastbound #2 lane. Younger (early thirties) White guy driving, No plates, and VERY clean from what i could see. He must have thought I was stalking him, cause I pulled up to the left side, then went behind, then went to the right side. I thought about trying to get his attention to ask if it was real, but it was 1:30am in Buena Park, and I didn't want him to think I was some wierdo (I am) trying to get him to pull over. I didn't think we were able to import the R's into the US because of DOT restrictions? Anywho... If it wasn't real, he did a damn good job with it!

Nice encounter.

I wish you had snapped some pics, I would had been all over that and I always carry camrea in the car.

If they can get RHD RX-7s and other RHD cars on the road here in SoCal. It shouldn't be too hard to import real NSX-R other than finding one in Japan and buy one. Importing the car shouldn't be much different than RHD RX-7s other than much much higher purchase price and extremely difficult to find one in Japan.

Unlike GTRs or cars that have no similar models sold in state and require crash testing. The obstacle and restrictions are probably a lot smaller. My assumption of course.

Yeah, other than emissions and a few safety factors (airbag delete), it shouldn't be that hard, but from what I've heard, it's near impossible. Maybe just because they are so hard to find...

99% of the time I do carry a camera in my car. But since I was going out of town with my kids I pulled it out of the car to recharge the battery and forgot it at home when I left  . And since I can't use my phone on the plane, it gets shut off and jammed into my backpack where it sits until I get home...:frown: . I actually thought about pulling over, grabbing my backpack out of my trunk, then catching back up to him. But I had my wife and kids with me, and they would have thought I was crazy

RHD is impressive, but if it was real, it wasn't legal from a DOT/NHTSA standpoint. Maybe the paperwork was fudged to say it was a pre-'96 model.

Thats awesome! What color and what year was it? Was it NA1 type-r or NA2? Well I am sure he will pop up eventually and maybe even on here. Thanks for sharing.

NA2. It looked pretty new/clean, so I'm guessing a late model... but then again it was on the freeway at 1:30am at 80mph

No plates at all... which is also what made me think it may be the real thing.

That is risky...they would impound the car for that. Good luck getting the car back after that. Would have been cool to see. Heck...I would have risked looking weird and asked the guy to pull over or at least if it was real. When else will you ever see one in the USA?

It could have been missing plates and had dealer temporary registration on the windshield. The VERY 1st day I imported my car (U.S. LHD) from Panama I removed the Panama plates. I took it no more than a block from my house and was pulled over AND I was going 30-35mph on the street slowly passing 2 obvious cop cars on the side of the road. "Sir, what are you doing going up/down the street looking for a race?" Me: "I JUST left my house going to buy TOGO's sandwiches" Cop: "I saw a car exactly like yours going up/down the street" Me: "I doubt you saw ANOTHER widebody red NSX" Cop: Why don't you have plates on the car" Me: "I just picked it up today"

Anyway, they let me go after running the VIN (car was not registered yet)since they knew they screwed up but my point is I am sure me not having plates didn't help the cause. Sorry for the thread jack.

Jeff
