Hi.

I'm new to this forum and quite new to the idee of becoming an NSX owner. I had my aim on a Porsche but fell in love with NSX the first time I saw it in real live and got a few laps on a track.

Now to my question, I'm 6'6" (198 cm) long and don't fit that well in a stock 1991 coupe. With a lot of will and Vaseline it works but it isn't a long-term solution - the Vaseline that is

I have read other posts in this forum that people have removed foam from the seat bottom to get it lower but I would appreciate if someone could measure how much lower the seat gets if one replaces them with sport/racing seats from ex. Recaro or Omp. It would ideal for me to get my head 3" lower than stock seats.

I'm also wondering if someone have a genius solution to get more air to the front brakes. Some kind of duct or hose to force fresh air to the brakes.

Tanks in advance.

I would suggest sitting in an NSX from an owner in your area who has done the seat cushion modification, to see how it fits.

I have installed 2" brake cooling ducts on my NSX. They lead from an opening in the front air dam, squeeeeezing alongside the bottom corners of the radiator just above the core support, and are mounted to a flange that was welded onto a hole that was cut in the brake splash shields.

You might want to look at getting a Sparco/MOMO/Recaro seats taht are comfortable for you.
They are typically lower to the floor and may also allow you to push them farther back from
the pedals. I would think that is the only solution for you.

Hi Klas,

I'm 6'6" and have a '96 NSX-T. I love it, but it's a very tight fit. I tried the thinner Dali Racing seat cushion but still didn't have enough headroom. I ended up removing all of the padding from the bottom of the seat and using a very thin (<0.5") high density cushion in the shell. I now fit, but my hair still brushes the headliner. You can't go any lower with a race seat... the stock shell is very thin and already down on the carpet.

I recommend you don't buy the NSX unless you can try one out with the seat cushion removed and see how you like it. It will depend on your exact proportions. Another cm in the torso and I don't think I could enjoy the car long term.

The Porsche will be more comfortable and probably just as fast (or faster), but it's not the same experience at all

P.S. The instructions for removing the seat cushion are in the DIY section of the FAQ. You can do it without damaging the seat. You have to cut some glued foam but you can easily reinstall the cushion.

The lowest seating option is the Recaro SPG with the TAITEC sliding seat rail. It will literally get your butt a few mm from the floor pan. If that's still not low enough, there's not much else you can do, other than banging down the floor pan such as what Acura of Brookfield did for Ryan B with the GT2 NSX. The only problem with the Recaro SPG, is if your pants size is 35+, it will get tight.

Good luck.

Regards,

Thank you all for your answers but I’m still a bit confused.
In the country I live we only imported 11 1991 NSX’s so they aren’t that common. I have tracked down 4 of the cars but they are all stock so I don’t have the possibility to test any of the solution suggested.
There are 2 answers that I can’t get to match. Bryan who also is 6’6” writes that stock seats with all padding removed is as low one can get. ScienceofSpeed on the other hand writes that Recaro seats are better because lower seating position and to top it of kenjiMR writes that sport seats can slide farther back and by that give more leg space and by that maybe more head room since I can “crouch” more.
I was hoping that someone on the forum had tried both stock and sport seats and could give me a measurement how much lower sport seats are.
There have been discussions on how the proportions between torso and legs are important. My hip (the “ball”) is 45,5” and my head at 77,5”. May I ask for your measures Bryan?

Thanks.

Klas

Well its not quite a 91, but you could try getting a 95+ with the t-top. Just remove the panel and you should get all the headroom you need =)

Chris,

Do you think the SPG seat on Taitec rails is lower than the stock seat with cushion removed? On my '96 the shell (thin sheet aluminum) is actually touching the carpet, so I don't see how you could go any lower without removing the carpet.

Klas,

I am almost the same height (77.6") but I think your legs are a couple of inches longer. You should fit, although it will be tight. Removing the cushion will give you dramatically more headroom, but only you can decide if you are willing to live with the fit and the limited padding. I really love the car and am willing to put up with some inconvenience.

For all long people that wonder if and NSX is big enough I now have the answer – yes.
I got and OMP “racing” seat and a custom side mount at a local shop, the mount is very upwards so my legs have a lot of room and my head just brushes the roof. When I put my helmet on I’ll just slide a bit down the seat and I fit ok.
Although the seat is mounted for maximum legroom I approximate that my head is about 2,5-3” lower than stock.
There are 2 advantages other than the obvious that I now fit ok in my car and that is the car feels even more like a go-cart because I can drive more relaxed with all the side support of my body by the deep shell and that the chair actually if very comfortable although it’s stuffing only is about 1/4 of an inch.
The longest trip so far is about 300 miles and no problems at all with a sore but
