Can anyone out there tell me if i need to remove the center console to get at the little rear speaker. I need to replace the center rear speaker i removed the three panels and took off the four screws on the center panel which has the speaker cover on it and it will not budge. It looks like the console that your elbow rests on has to come off to get at it any help would be appreciated.

I don't know the answer to your question.

If there's no sound coming from the little rear speaker, keep in mind that it's controlled by the amplifier in the passenger side footwell, and it's usually the amp that goes out, not the speaker.

I realize that this isn't the question you asked, and hopefully someone else can tell you whether you need to remove the entire center console. If you DO need to do so, there's a description of how in the DIY part of the FAQ.

All speakers work but the small speaker that sits behind the seats cracks sometimes so i decided to replace it anyway. The console or box i should say with the leather cover is whats holding it up.

You'll need to open you're center arm rest and remove everything inside of it. The bottom piece must be removed, which means you'll need something very thin and pointed to pull it up and out. Be carefull because the carpet that's on it is very easy to scratch. I would suggest pulling it from one corner. Once the piece is removed, you'll see the screws that must be removed in order to take off the rear center panel that houses the speaker.

Hope that helps, and if anyone knows a little more feel free to chime in.

I strongly suggest to use the small cutout at the short-side of the bottom piece. Use a little hook, or bend some very thin wire. There should be no force used at all.
There is actually 1 screw under that box, holding the speaker cover.

Have fun.

Before you pull the center speaker, I would definitely consider that the problem may instead be the amplifier which drives it. That amp is located under front carpet in the passenger footwell (the same box also houses the "subwoofer" speaker and the matching amplifier).

I'm getting the humming sound from the passenger footwell, and the same sound is duplicated in the rear center speaker. I've never heard any sounds out of it really other than from the cell phone... and cant quite hear any subwoofer action either.

How much is it to replace the whole enclosure from some other place other than bose? Like maybe put a 10" sub in or something...?

Had the same problem a few years back in my 91. As was suggested, it is likely the subwoofer amp causing the small center speaker not to work (very commmon). Electronic Caps leak and short in the older Bose systems. There is someone in Fl. that repairs the speakers. They did a great job! Cost was ~$80.00 and fixed the center speaker problem as well. They are list in the FAQ section....take a look.
