Speaker problem (yes, another one)

My left speaker was faint and made some funky squealing sounds recently (ah - the common Bose speaker problem). I had the speaker assy sent to Bose for repair. I installed the repaired speaker assy last weekend. The squealing sound is gone, but the sound is not quite right.

It the left still seemed more "faint" than the right side, so I turned the balance from side to side. When turned 100% right, sound just comes from the right, but sounds fine (as expected). However, When turned 100% left, there is no bass at all - only highs (seems like approx 1KHz and above). In fact, I do not hear any bass from the sub.

While there is no doubt the left speaker has not lows, It's hard for me to tell if the faintness problem I observed is exclusively due to the lack of lows or if there is another problem besides the missing bass that is contributing to it.

I looked at past posts:Help on testing 3rd chanel amp., Speaker Problem, Stereo Problem, but did not see anything exactly like my problem. The closest thing I saw was the 3rd chanel amp test.

Do these symptoms sound familiar? I know it's possible the speaker was not repaired correctly, but I am wondering if there is anything I should check before I take the door apart again.

TIA

I had the same problem with mine. I replaced
the whole speaker and amp. I,m sure someone must have one for sale. I bought both sides and the system works fine now. Dan

Ojas:

I had the exact same experience after the L amp was replaced - I sent the whole unit to the Bose repair shop in Florida. Maybe I should have done both L and R at the same time so at least they would be the same. It seems to be the L one that goes most - perhaps the opening and closing of the driver's door. (I wonder if the reverse is true in Japan, UK and other RHD countries.) I will watch your replies before further action. The good (1) news is that the Bose system is not up to the standard of the NSX - I prefer the sound of the exhaust anyway!
