Can anyone tell me when do you need to change your Spark Plug Wires? Just curious if there is a time frame on these and what do they cost anyway.

Hi Steven

The NSX does not have spark plug wires. Instead, the coils are mounted directly on top of the spark plugs. Occasionally, the coils should be checked for proper operation (see www.danoland.com/nsxgarage/spark_plugs/spark_plug.htm) but as far as I know, the coils rarely go bad.

Happy revving,
DanO

My idle is a little rough, and I was told by the Dealer that I may have a bad coil. Will the DanO step 6 "Ignition Coil Test" for resistance diagnose a bad coil, and if I find a bad one, is it okay to replace just one. By the way, great write up on spark plug replacement DanO. Thanks.

It seem to me that a bad coil would fail the resistance test in every situation but i'm not 100% sure. I do not believe that you have to replace every coil, just the bad one.

Keep in mind that the pre '94 cars (i think) have a seperate part number for the front bank and rear bank of coils.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Dan.

I had mine replaced because of a T.S.B.
I believe on my car and others, the coils come in two sets, of three. One on each bank. So, I don't think you can replace just a single coil. You can check Lud's service TSB list to see if your car qualifies for Replacement.
Cheers Rich

my brothers nsx needed the coil packs to be changed but rather than trying to figure out which one went bad we changed all six just to be sure (his car had over 120k) but the rear three are different than the front three

Smoore what did your brother pay for the Coil Packs just curious.
