Two questions...

1. How do I fully deflate the spare tire? I let the air out of the valve stem, and it collapsed but it's still nowhere near as small as it was. (It's now about two inches larger in radius than the outer edge of the wheel.)

2. Is there supposed to be a special valve in it? From the instructions in the owner's manual, it sounds like there's supposed to be a special valve that you can unscrew with a regular screwdriver, but the inside of mine just looks like any other valve stem.

TIA!

I would take it to a tire place and see if they can put a device on it and shrink it back down. A strap of some type. Just a thought. Good luck Ken.

Dang! I had actually done a search as well as trying the "wheels & tires" section of the FAQ. Didn't think of the "ownership" section.

Thanks, Drew!

Now... question 2?

No Soup for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I figured out the answer to this question. The valve core in the spare tire is a plain old valve core, just like any other tire. But the valve stem cap - the piece you unscrew to put air in it - isn't. The cap actually consists of two pieces! The cap itself is metal, and there's a thin rubber cap that fits over it. If you remove the rubber cap, you see that the outer end of the cap is the proper shape of the tire valve tool used to unscrew the valve core, so you can use the valve stem cap for this purpose.
