Spandex-type cover for car when T-top is OFF?

I love to drive my NSX with the Targo top off the car........best of both worlds with convertible feel but nice sun coverage :)

The thing is I normally store my car in the garage with the car cover on but leave the T-top off since I don't like to mess with it, etc. Problem is when I go out sometimes to "safe" areas and when I park I'll like a quick cover that wraps the canopy section of the car. Essentially it will drap over the front window and stretch over the side windows to cover the missing T-top section.

I currently have the red NSX car cover from SOS and I love that fabric as it's both soft and elastic.

Was thinking if I can get some of that material and make a canopy cover with 4 STRONG magnets so when I park the car, I can quickly stretch the canopy over the roof and also keep it stylish. Was thinking of doing the same red material the SOS car cover.

What do you experts suggest I do? Is there something like this on the market or do I have to get a upholstery shop to custom make one? I was thinking if enough people are interested we can share the costs and have a few made at the same time? What do you guys think?

P.S. I don't want to put the car cover on as dirt may scratch the paint plus it's too time consuming / kinda odd to be covering up a whole car at the local coffee shop, etc.

thanks
rick

This is what I use for what you described. I think it works really well. I bought mine from Dali Racing, but it's also listed here:

http://www.khrantenterprises.com/f16.htm

It attaches with loops around the side mirrors and straps that you use the vents to secure the back. You dont have to have anything permanently attached to your car, which is nice.

what kind of magnets can stick to aluminum?

come on now. they're obviously called aluminum magnets!

i would be more worried about strong magnets damaging paint (if you were to stick them to body panels...which can't be done unless you have receiving magnets behind the panel or something...

Good point, I was obviously not thinking when I typed that....hehe

Just brainstorming but it seems a company already sells what I need :)

Revisiting this topic, I've found another perhaps cheaper and more importantly looks better way to do this.

Went by the local JoAnn fabrics store to get some red fleece material for $9.00 and also some hard backing material (cardboard like) that can fold in half when not in use.

I plan to use 4 suction cups: one on each window and one on each b-pillar to hold the entire contraption in place. You can pick the colors but I opted for red / black combo to match my seats :)

Going to have it all stitched up later this week. My main goal for this is just to keep dust/leaves, etc out of the car and not have to put the targa top on each time. Security is not an issue so mainly to keep dirt out when I park at my office or short term parking.

whattabout this thingie?!?

Just Pm Hrant- seen it on his car. I'm sure he'll hook you up!
Ditto! Unless this (below) is cost prohibitive, I'd simply pursue it & call it a day; that-is, unless you're really-really into self-fabricating/personal-customizing/D.I.Y./etc'!

This thingie... Khrant's Carbrella / Soft T-Top

(IMHO, much preferable to the "F16 Canopy Cover" also linked above)

Thank you guys for the plug.

The F16 and the Carbrella offer different solutions but they are not mutually exclusive. We are the only company that offers the F16 canopy and just as an FYI, it took me 3+ years to finalize the design, fit, and manufacturing of the Carbrella.

The Carbrella is $165 shipped - comes with a storage case too. Nobody beats this price!

The F16 is $70 without logo and $80 with logo shipped. It comes with a storage bag. The logo is placed on top center of windshield and storage bag. The fabric is microfiber (Denier 150, just like our car covers).

CA sales tax of 7.75% applies.

Cheers.

Can I get the logo to say Porsche?

I instruct for the PCA and I am tired of people asking me when I am going to get a Porsche. I'm thinking that maybe I can disguise the NSX when I am not out on the track.
