My ivory speaker grill covers are awful looking and can not be cleaned. I've decided to go with black so i went to a local audio shop and the only thing they have is thin like panty hose material and looks cheap.

Does anyone know where i can buy some quality speaker grill fabric like the oem stuff? I'm looking for black. I will need enough to recover all three speaker grills. Something nice and thick like the factory material is preferred. If anyone has something PM me a price, i need to move on this quickly.

Thanks

I swear we are doing the exact same work on our ivory interiors! Every time I see your posts they usually are something I have in mind to do. :D

So you just got done installing your black nsx-r style carpet too? Wasn't it a PITA? I still don't have my drivers seat bolted down yet.

I thought the Autovation pedal install from last week was a PITA (only the brake pedal) that was until the carpet install this week.

I also cracked the clear plastic on my cf gauge overlay & aluminum trim rings install so i'm waiting on the new lens to get that back in.

When I had my 91 w/ ivory interior I replaced it with black speaker cloth purchased at the local Radio Shack. Grill pops off without removing door panel.

Jeff

those grilles have tabs that are bent inside the door. just because they WILL pull out from the front doesn't mean you should. not to mention that you cant properly reinstall them from the front because you can't bend the tabs all the way back.

we keep this in all colors at work. i personally went with red.

Nope, my NSX-R black carpet money was spent on my A/C instead... Afraid it will have to wait until next year. Same with the pedals. Grrr.... My next big project is to refurbish my door panels. Just bought a bunch of screws/clips from Tim @ Ray Laks to do it. Now I just need good weather and the most valuable part of all - TIME! :D

If i had to do it all over again i would do the Autovation pedals again, only the top two holes on the brake pedal were a real PITA, if you have a 90 degree it would be s pretty easy job.

I would not do the aftermarket carpet kit again though. The fit was poor and required a ton of cutting and then recutting and even then the stuff is still so much thicker than stock that nothing lines up quite right. A few of the other people i have talked to have had the similar issues with it. New oem carpet wasn't an option because of the price but if i had it to do all over again i would wait for a nice used black oem carpet set or find one that wasn't tore up and have it dyed.

I don't even want to have my seats recovered now because of how difficult it was getting them bolted back in after the carpet install. On top of it all the type r weave is a filth magnet, every little thing gets stuck in the weave and doesn't vacuum out easily. Its been in less than a week now and its already looking shabby.

Live and learn i guess.

My new grill material should be here later in the week and i'll let you know how that turns out.

Hmm, I don't recall having much of an issue. Used a screwdriver the bend down the tabs and it came right out. It snapped right back in without removing the door panel. It wasn't sticking out either. It's been a long time since I did it but clearly remember I didn't remove the door panel and didn't leave it half a*s back on either. Good luck.

The color of my ivory cloth over the speaker grills faded over the years and I replaced them with the black cloth now. They look pretty good.

I did order the white speaker cloth from speakerwork.com, but they material was not thick enough. The white cloth was kind of transparent and you can see the holes from the metal grill. I didnt' like that look so I changed to the black cloth.

I dipped the grill in soapy water and the cloth came off easily. When replace new cloth onto the grill, I bought a can of spray glue from Home Depot and spray the glue on the grill, put the cloth on, the cloth attached well.

It's been 1.5 year and no problem at all with the replacement.

Good luck.

I got the new grill material on and i like the look of the black grills vs the factory ivory. The material was nice and thick like the oem stuff.

I tried to install the aluminum trim pieces for the speaker grills but they didn't fit quiet right. The rest of the trim kit fit great but the speaker grill pieces are slightly misshapen so i left them off for now. I also didn't use the ones for the courtesy door panel lights either. They didn't look right on the ivory. I might try them again with some black courtesy lights the next time i have the door panels off.

I also got the aluminum door lock pulls and they look nice too but i made the mistake of thinking they could go on with the door panel in place. Not so, you have to install them with the door panel off and feed them through from the bottom.
