hi, i have a 1998 formula red coupe and i'm trying to modify my car to s-zero specifications. i've done a bit of research and every aspect seems pretty straight forward to me (such as changing suspension to szero-spec, getting the single-mass flywheel, lighter rear spoiler, lighter battery, single-pane rear partition glass, taking out the TCS, power-steering, cruise control, getting all the interior goodies like the recaros and the momo steering wheel, etc. etc. etc.) However what isn't clear to me is the 10kg or so worth of noise-dampening material that honda removed from the nsx. does anyone know more specific info regarding this? such as where this stuff is located, how to get it out, etc... and has anyone done it? thanks a lot, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think alot of the sound insulation is on the firewall behind the seats. I've heard that it gets very loud in the cabin without this (not worth the weight savings), but I've never ridden in one with it removed.

I think the S-Zero has a single pane rear window (also not worth the extra noise IMO)

I was cleaning out the car interior last Sunday, washed the carpets with a good steam cleaner, etc. I noticed that the NSX is different from other cars I have looked at - it seems to use fitted sound deadening materials under the seats and carpets, not the usual tar-like spread.

Also, the most common way I have seen to get it off is just scraping it up; with the tar, if you know how, you can "freeze" it, once it gets cold it gets brittle, and becomes much easier to remove cleanly.

A messy job, and, IMO, might not be worth the time spent. But to each their own - and the weight savings would be measurable.

Now, removing the trunk carpet should be good for a few pounds savings (maybe 4-5), and it's easy to do. Pop the tool kit, if you haven't already...

The real heavy stuff is all under the carpets. You have to take out both seats and pull the carpets back. You have to use a heat gun to melt it down, then scrape it off like tar. Takes alot of work, but that stuff is suprisingly heavy.
