Good Day, fair [NorCal] denizens of the Prime!

My aggression has finally manifested in clutch wear (102k, not too shabby) and its time to get my rotational inertia game right. Luckily, all it costs is money to have a SoS Sport Clutch be sent my way.

I would rather have another person wrestle the clutch in (I could not hog all the fun to myself), and I am looking for a NorCal shop to do it.

Can anyone point me in a good direction?

I'd get a quote from an Acura dealer who has a NSX tech and go from there. Installation prices can vary quite a bit. It would also be a good time to inspect/change outdriveshaft boots and master slave and inspect the rear main seal with 102k miles.

I recommend deleting the clutch damper. SOS can sell you a bypass line.

My NSX is at Sunnyvale Acura for a engine build.

the Manager and service writer are both NSX owners.

the service writer is Patchez on this forum and has a turbo'd red NSX.

Just bring it by and I can get the clutch installed for you. I can give you a loaner vehicle to drive also if need be.

Clutch+Flywheel is installed, thanks to Justin and the crew at Acura Authorized Service... and even under a deadline, a day early. Cheers.

Initial drive home impression:

The engine definitely revs more quickly, but to me the most noticeable aspect how fast the needle fell after releasing throttle. This is a welcome improvement; although the stock clutch on my '95 really was not bad either. No extra noise. No unexpected pedal feel.

I am liking the upgrade thus far, with no discernible decrease in street-ability whatsoever. Feels very composed for parking maneuvers. I'm sure it will feel even better for extended, non-parking maneuvers...

OK, it was like 10 miles so far, but people wanted to know. Time to stop talking and start driving.

Hi there. I had Shad at Driving Ambition install mine about 4-6 months ago right after it came out. It is great but the only thing that I have found is that when the car is warm and driven for some time it shudders in 1st gear at low RPM like it doesnt have enough throttle to get going. I have had to become accustomed to higher revs going into first. This may be because I went from a dual plate to single plate. Let me know if you find this as well.

Interesting, I will definitely watch out for that. I will need to go out and get it warm. I suppose I was expecting to get closer to stalling more often because of the lighter flywheel, but this sounds like a unique phenomenon. Thanks for the heads up.

UPDATE:

I have put about 500 miles on the clutch, and I definitely experience the same issue: After the car is warm, 1st gear is a chore to engage, particularly from stopped/neutral.

I guess we have ourselves a phenomenon here. Are there any others out there? I would love to start speculating on what it could be, but my guess is that somebody has a good idea already... let us know!

Alot of aftermarket clutch kits will have some shudder on start. Some more than other depending on the material the clutch disc is made with.

x2 keep me posted please... I dont drive my car much so I figured it was something that had to do with a brand new clutch install, not the SOS clutch in particular. The SOS is much softer pedal feel than OEM, which is fine but the engagement thing is a nuisance. I had mine installed exactly a year ago, hope any sort of warranty is not up yet :-/

I'm installing a sos sports clutch soon and i was wondering if you guys are running the sports clutch with standard engines?
I wonder if the torque of a supercharger would reduce shuddering?
Any thoughts?

I put one in a couple months ago. It is totally smooth- no shuddering and a lot more gradual take up than my old worn oem clutch.

To clarify:

The car does not shudder excessively (at least for me). It is literally an issue of gear-meshing, as a depressed clutch plus arm action to put the shift stalk into 1st gear is resisted. Usually, with more force and a little wobble, I can get it to pop in. I noticed this weekend I had similar troubles with reverse; after the car is warm, it can be a bugger to get the gears to mesh properly.

Shudder, as I define it, is the behavior exhibited after the gears have meshed and the transmission is taking engine load. The phenomenon I have experienced is distinctly different; the gears will not mesh in the first place. I have no issues once the gears are engaged.

I hope this clarifies what could be two different drive-train characteristics.

That is due to the clutch not fully disengaging(dragging). You either have air in your system or some other issue that is causing the clutch to not fully disengage(ie. insufficient travel, warped clutch or pressure plate, etc.).

I will be checking my clutch system adjustment for sure to see if I can find anything enlightening to feed back to the community. I suppose it might be that my adjustment is off just enough to prevent prevent full, smooth engagement after the car is warm. Anyone else experiencing the issue already mess around with clutch adjustment, etc.?

The instructions that came with the clutch explains the proper adjustment.

^ I have the SOS Sport Clutch and experience the same thing. I used to have an RPS clutch so going from that to the SOS was a drastic change in pedal feel.

The SOS of clutch is and RPS clutch.

I've had the clutch for almost a year and the variant from SOS a year before that and no shudder whatsoever.

You must not think very highly of my capacity to solve problems...

I'm not questioning your capacity to solve problems but you asked about adjusting the clutch and Chris from SOS says that the adjustment in the instructions is very important that it's done to the specs or you may have issues.

Gotcha. I also received feedback that a slightly modified clutch part may also help provide the necessary adjustment to alleviate the problem.

I will be working through the fix and update as I discover things.

Mine only does it when the car is warm, it's annoying as hell. You say start in second? I'll try that. Any news from SOS?
Again, I bought straight from SOS and Shad put it in so it was done correctly. It's gotta be the part.
