Someone backed into me!!!

I was stopped at a stop sign behind a Buick Lesabre and the girl who was driving felt she was too far into the intersection so she just threw her car into reverse and backed right into me. To top it off, the cop tried to act like it was my fault because the car is so low profile and I should have left more distance.

He ended up not giving her a ticket, but made her the at fault vehicle. My question is - judging from the damage I think they'll just try to repair it, but would I be better off trying to get them to replace the bumper?. It's scratched up with some of her paint on my car. No dents or holes, though. I'm just worried that the paint may not match if they just repair it. If they replace the bumper, does it come painted by the factory? What should I do? Thanks for the help.

If the cop said the girl was at fault then her insurance should pay for the damage. Whether you can get a new bumper out of it is another question and even then it should be painted to match your car so in the end it might not be different from having your current bumper repaired and painted. From the picture it's hard to judge if it can be repaired or not but I am no expert on this.
A good repaint of the bumper can be pretty expensive with the labor getting it off and on again.

Go out and get some polishing compound and see if the other cars paint comes off. It doesn't appear in the picture that the scratches are very deep. After a god rubbing, throw a few coats of wax on the area and see how it looks.

There's no reason to get very upset over this. The damage does not appear to require an entire bumper repaint.

There is no way the chicks insurance co is going to pay you for a new bumper for that. There is a company called Bumper Medic that reparied my wife's X5 bumper with similar scrapes (actualy they were alot worse), did a great job and the cost was reasonable.

Looks like it will probably buff off. At worst you would re-paint the bumper. No reason to replace it unless there is damage I'm just not seeing. Replacement bumpers come unpainted from the factory so you'd have to paint a replacement as well.

Im not sure what year your car is so this may not apply. But according to a local acura dealer/bodyshop, some of the 1995+ parts can be ordered factory pre-painted. It might not match exactly though if your car has faded...

NSX front bumper cover is $900, there is no way insurance company will give you a new bumper. Most likely, they will repair it ( even a damaged 2002 bumper will send to a repair shop)

Where to take the car?

The insurance company said that I could take the car anywhere I want and I'm wondering if anyone knows a good place in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. Let me know as soon as you can as the adjuster will be calling me within the next couple of days. They've recommended a place where they will guarantee the work for life. Should I just take it to my dealer? Thanks
