I've been seeing a lot of posts lately about aftermarket seats that are being offered to the people here at NSXPrime.

Remember that the seat is an intergral part for the safety of the driver and passenger of your car, if you value your life and the life of your passenger make sure to get seats that have passed stress and impact testing, nothing else should do.

The last thing that you want to do is being involved in an incident and have either the rails or the seats themselves fail to do their job.

This should really belong on the main forum, but I'm placing it here given that folks who track are supposed to know better than to cut corners when it comes to safety, and it's a good reminder for the owners who start participating in track events.

I thought about this myself when looking at different seat options.

What ratings do seats have?

Do they have a similar safety ratings for seats like they have for helmets?

What about brackets Im sure these make a difference as well? -Im sure this is a case u get what you pay for, but are there better options then others?

seats can get competition ratings, eg here are Recaro SPG's, FIA approved:

Obviously all components make a difference when it comes to seats, the brackets are clearly important, and a weak bracket could lead to serious concequences; many of the seat options being presented in the last few months have been around for a while, being sold in small 'ricer' shops, but now they come on nsxprime and display the material of the shell, and people install them in their nsx's without a second thought... I would stay with name brand seats, sold through reputible dealers to eliminate the chance of getting a fake seat, or just keep your existing oem seats.

The stock seats are comfortable and supportive, weight reduction can be done elsewhere in many cases, or the money could be better spent on other areas of the car. I cringe at the idea of cloth seats in an nsx, unless they're oem r/s seats, or the car is built as a primarily track vehicle - a daily driver, with cheap cloth seats that are less comfortable than oem, over a weight savings of perhaps 10-15lbs, is silly, especially if there is a safety concern.

What's bugged me about the competition seats used on the street is their incompatibility with the stock seatbelts. I've been lots of people with these seats, and they generally take the belt and put it over the sides of the seat and over the inside to buckle up. This doesn't put the belt snugly against your hips like the OEM one does. The seatbelt is held away from your body by the side walls. Even if you were to thread your belt through the outside hole, you are still putting the belt over the side wall to get to the buckle.

The OEM Recaro shells that Honda uses in Japan are different in that they have an enlarged hole on the inside through with the buckle fits. Combined with threading the belt through the outboard belt hole, this puts the entire belt snugly against your body. This makes a huge difference in the belt's functionality.

I wonder what/how my Sparco Roadsters rate? They were in the car when I bought it, so never saw any of the stickers or whatever.

How did you get a SPG seat with yellow stitches? Looks good to me. I want one.
