Hey everyone,

I just picked up a 94 from Vegas and drove it back. Hoping to meet up with you guys soon. Since I have a black car, I want to get it professionally detailed the first time and do it on my own later. Can anyone please recommend a shop for me? I'm in Costa Mesa but willing to drive 50 miles either direction. Thanks.

My car was detailed professionally before I bought it..looked great...although you may be able to do MOST of it from home and it will take time...I know you said just once..if I knew a place I would tell you, but you may want to start with a clay bar and some zaino or Meguiar's polish/wax system whichever you prefer...

As long as there isn't an accumulation of heavy water spots or stains, whats an afternoon of your time worth?

I've used the Meguiar's system with great success coupled with a premium wax, 3M compounds/swirl removers, and a clay bar (Mothers, Pinnacle, etc). I detail my daily driver once a week. Once a quarter, I strip the wax/polish and begin again. I do 1500-1700 miles a month. Once you clay, if you keep the paint meticulously clean and polished, you never need to clay again unless you let it go to hell in a handbasket or you park outside without a cover day in day out..

Zaino works great too and is much more durable then a carnuba. Its right up there in gloss/reflectivity/depth/slickness and is way more durable then the top carnubas. A premium layered carnuba takes the looks department one notch further, but, its wrecked far too easy while Zaino is like the energizer bunny vs the elements by comparison.

i have a black '94 that had alot of swirl marks when it was first purchased. i paid my detail guy 75 bucks to do his stuff and the car came out beautiful. he's here in newport if you're interested.

supergreen,

yea, would you mind sending me his information? $75 sounds like a bargain, I went to a couple of places to get quotes and most are between 250 - 350. i'd like to try to do the wash, clean, and wax myself, but don't have my own garage to do so quite yet. but i have been researching the detailing process to do so on my own.

thanks.

Oh, for crying out loud!
Just paste the guy's name and number on here.

Hey he's networking and he doesn't even know it. If enough guys are in it, maybe he'll do a group discount or something. Whatcha think?

hahahahaa.
you guys are funny.
his name is tim.
he is the owner of steve's detailing in newport beach (don't ask.)

he's been detailing my cars for almost 3 years, so i'm sure he did it as a favor... but i'm sure if enough of you get in on it he'll work something out.
or just let me know and i'll ask him about it.

I'm interested in getting a group rate on his detail service. Perhaps we can schedule a day for everyone interested, this weekend?

Supergreen, please let him know I'll be calling him, my name is Sam, 94 Black/Tan.

Thanks for your help.

that sounds good, perhaps we can setup the group rate, then we can make our individual appointments with him. I don't think the shop can do 3+ cars a day anyways.

if you guys want to do a group rate, i would recommend letting me organize it with him. i can try to set something up for next weekend, being that this weekend would be very short notice for him (he usually doesn't work on saturday.)
otherwise, if you want to take care of it on your own, i already let him know there might be some nsx owners calling. just let him know that you're a friend of mike marr at scicon (pronounced sy-con) and he'll take care of you.

supergreen,

if you could arrange for me, that would be cool. i just talked to tim and he quoted me 155, that includes exterior and interior, not sure if it includes wash, polish and wax or just wash and wax.

so if you can get a lower price, i'd appreciate it. he told me his earliest availability is this coming tuesday. thanks again.

ok.. i talked with tim and it looks like there won't be any "group detailing day." he is already booked up with his weekly detailing customers and does not work on the weekends. he can't really fit more than about 3 additional details in a normal day, so if you guys want to do a "mini-group day" or make individual appointments, the rate appears to be $155.

you would have to call tim to find out exactly. he called what he did to my car a "cut and buff."

Cut and buff means compound and buff out, the level cut referring to the abrasiveness of the product being used.

Wet sand (1200-1500 grit sand paper and lots of lubrication) in dire circumstances where you want to not repaint but still remove deep scratches (like from a key, etc), remove unbelievable oxidation, or paint crazing (cracking or checking in the clear coat/top paint layer).

tell us about your experience and how it turn out. sometime two experience is better than one.
