I actually never knew you could get away with being supercharged and only have it regulated by the fuel pressure if I'm understanding correctly.  I even say fic isn't great and lacks a lot of things but I guess each their own.  I'm not up on Cali law but I would say get a good engine management system and monitor things like you've been doing.  Know what types of pressures your car is and although sometimes things go boom quick there are situations and warning signs that something is wearing.
