So, is my battery toast?

after (or during) a massive brain fart, i left the key turned on for about 36 hours while my faithful steed was parked in the garage... of course the battery is dead but is it toast, as in being an ex-battery? or will it charge right back up if i put it on a trickle charger?

thanks in advance...

It doesn't sound like you have anything to lose by trying (except maybe the "charge-up" time). It might work and it certainly won't hurt a totally "dead" battery, so give it a shot!

i was curious because i've had a situation with my honda cr-v where the dome light was left on for oh... about 3 weeks. after that, the battery didn't seem to be quite the same...

any idea how long you have to leave one draining before the damage is irreversible?

A shop can do tests to see if the battery is okay after it's been recharged. I don't know what those tests consist of, though.

the local auto parts store has a tester... of course, i have to yank the battery out to do that...

good news...

the battery was fine this morning... it was fully charged this morning according to the charging unit and when i put it in the car it showed a steady 14.8 volts on the AC guage with no fluctuations. hopefully i dodged the bullet...
