SHIRLEY, N.Y. -- It was advertised as a topless car wash. Pretty women on the side of the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, Long Island holding suggestive signs to direct traffic to a parking area. However, it wasn't what you think.
After drivers paid their $5 and drove behind a blue tarp -- their car was washed by firemen not wearing shirts.
Shirley's First Assistant Fire Chief Donald Prince admits it was kind of a bait and switch. But the advertising was honest -- All the guys were topless.
The car wash was raising money for local school booster clubs and other charities.
While the female drivers enjoyed the "eye candy,'' male customers felt a little cheated.
The fire department said all money raised will benefit local school booster clubs and charities.
