Snow and the NSX...are Canadians the only ones who know how to drive in it?

So, being a hybrid Canadian-American, I have experienced terrible snow and weather on both sides of the border in the NSX.....but I have to ask one question...are Canadians the only ones who know how to drive in the snow?

We currently live in Indianapolis, Indiana and over the last couple of days there has been a huge cafuffle on the news, at work, by the water cooler, and in the bathrooms, about some 'blizzard' and 'record snow storm' that we are supposed to be getting today. People are buying huge quantities of food, milk, bread, snow shovels and snow blowers....you would think we were getting 10 feet of snow like New York just did. I mean, it has been all over the televison.

People I work with started ribbing me yesterday about my NSX (since I drive it all year round) and saying, 'How do you think YOU are getting to work tomorrow in that thing (ha-ha-ha),' and then they follow it up with how they are glad they have SUV's and trucks and how my little sports car will be stuck in the garage. Well, I sit here today as THE ONLY ONE who showed up for work in my department. THE ONLY ONE!! My NSX is parked in the parking lot with snow on it, and NONE of my co-workers are here. On the way in there were vehicles all over the highway, smashed into barriers, smashed into each other, a black Chevrolet Equinox flew off the side of the highway for no apparent reason other than the driver was a moron. Seriously....people were everywhere!!

What shocks me is that in Canada this would not be anything. I have had snow OVER the roof top of my NSX before up in Barrie. In Canada there would be no news warnings, no mass hysteria, no huge lines at the grocery store....no big deal. Total accumulation was between 4 to 8 inches here depending which side of town you live on. In Canada, that is a dusting. Nothing of note. Here...it is an emergency panic!! I swear....Americans cannot drive in the snow....at least not in Indiana.

For all you that are wondering...the NSX did great. With a couple more inches of ground clearance it would have been perfect, but oh well. So do something fun to tick off a co-worker today....get snow tires for your NSX and teach that sissy down in Accounting with the SUV that you can get to work and have more fun than they can.

well my neighbor down the street from me drives his Gallardo in the Snow with snow tires

almost any car is capable driving in the snow if for 1. good snow tires are on
and 2. u actually know how to drive

Best winter car ever? S2000 with LM22s. Unstoppable!

I did that!! I had a set of snows on my '02 S2000 and it was great!! Although I think I used the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires.

Very cool! I would love to see a Gallardo making tracks in the snow!!

It is also a good point about knowing how to drive....for some reason people here have no clue how the heck to drive!! While I made it to work in my lowered NSX this week, here is the list of my co-workers cars that said they 'could not make it in' from my sales department:

1.) Toyota Land Cruiser
2.) Chevrolet Avalanche
3.) Cadillac Escalade
4.) BMW X5
5.) Ford F-150
6.) Chevrolet Tahoe

How those sissies could not make it in but I did is beyond me.

I bet that youre one of the few around with snow tires on though. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Canadians know all about'em eh.

Yep...the snow tires make all the difference. I was telling a couple of co-workers who were complaining about the snow, 'Come back to Canada with me for a winter...THEN you will know REAL snow'.

Oh so true!

When I lived in St. Louis, going to school, about 10% of the students there were from Canada. On any given day if it snowed, even 1 or 2 cm, nearly every student who showed up was Canadian! Even the OH, MI, NY, WI students missed class.

We got paid $12 / hour to shovel the sidewalk at the school, took the money, bought a 24 and enjoyed our day off.

Funny story, when I put the snow tires on my Prelude for the winter, a couple of friends from Florida asked me when my rims got jacked. I said they didn't, I just put on snow tires. They looked at me and said "they don't look like they are made of snow."

I'm not lying.

Mitch,

Is your brother-in-law Astroboy on Acurazine? He posted a pic of a white NSX with Bridgestone Blizzaks not too long ago ...

ROFL!

You have to be kidding....WOW!!

It's a true story. I tried explaining that they were specifically designed for use in snow and on ice. They didn't get it. I then told them they are like mud tires for offroading, but we do it in the snow in Canada. A dim light went on and they said Ohhhhh....

I think they are still down in Orlando telling their families about the tires made of black snow.

LMAO! I have to point out that not all Canadians know how to handle snow. I was living in Ontario when I got my liscense and all the way through highschool my favorite winter sport was throwing my shitty old toyota camry around in snowy/ icey parking lots. There were always blizzards, and I got very used to driving in with bad visibility, snow covering lane dividing lines, huge snow banks making every corner blind etc...

I moved back to Vancouver, BC last summer, and in the winter we got a ton (relatively speaking for vancouver) of snow. Everywhere I looked people were skidding all over the place, trying to floor theyre way up and down ice patches without a clue on how to properly drive. Sad really, especially when a "ton" of snow is anything more than one or two inches.

I totally agree. Not all Canadians can drive in snow. It appears from this thread that only NSX owners know how to handle the slippery stuff!

Yes. Canadian drivers are the only ones who can drive in snow. I'd hate to see snow driving in NorCal or SoCal. Heck, just a little rain out here causes the freeways to turn into bumper car rinks. No wonder car insurance is so freaking expensive out here.

That makes me think of that video from Oregon (?). I believe it was king 5 news, and they had home footage of cars sliding down that hill out of control. I would NOT want to be driving a nice car during that:P

The best is the Canadians who can't drive in snow but think they can!

We had a lessee with an S600 AMG who rolled it 4 times driving back from casino rama - when he called us my guy said, "Can we get you another car since yours in a write-off?"

Our Lessee said, "I don't think its a write-off!"

Yeah, pass the duct tape!

I'm still laughing! (I called my friends for advice: "If you roll an S600 AMG four times off the highway do you think its a write-off?") Most said yes, one offered to buy the motor!

Spend one snow storm down here in Indiana and watch as people freak out over a few inches of snow. Cars flying off of the roads everywhere, schools closing, the news ONLY talking about the snow 'storm' that is rocking the city, people either driving 1 mph and clogging traffic, or driving 90 mph and hitting snow banks that cause them to be propelled OVER cement dividers into oncoming traffic (YES!! That ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!). It is totally retarded.
