snapping sound when i role down my window.

If you are not sure whether you have the old style or new style window regulators, get a set of Dali Racing window fix-it thingies and have them on hand when you open up the door panel. Lube it up, and if the regulators are the old style, install the thingies. This is described in the FAQ under Troubleshooting - Power Windows.

Do this ASAP. Don't delay - if you do, you could end up having to replace the regulators, and they are not cheap.

And don't open your windows in the meantime until you check the regulator/thingy status.

Why does the snapping sounds familiar to me. Just as I heard the snapping sound my window just fell down into the door. The cable snapped and now I have to put a stick to keep the window in the up position until I can find the replacement for the motor.

I have some of the dali window thingys if you want..

15 shipped...

snap/crackle/pop

i changed my regulators a few months back. the new ones didn't require the dail fix-it thingies, so i didn't put them in. i didn't feel that i had the window aligned perfectly, so i had acura adjust them when i had it in for service.
now, when the window rolls down or up there is a pretty loud popping sound. should i be concerned? is this something the dealer can adjust or just the condition of my regulator?
( i used honda specific grease from my honda tech friend and plenty of it, so i know the rails and cables are adequately lubed)

thanks!

Pixel---sounds like the dealer did a lousy adjustment--the adjustment is very touchy--do a search--u will see other threads on this same issue--high temp urea grease is used for the lube of the rails---I am getting that currently as I have a whole lot to do when I remove both my door panels--remove speakers and install good set. Dali window things likely--mine go down fast and up fairly fast but make a slight popping noise going up at times--I am in AZ and so keep closed mostly or just open a crack but the stupid thing slides halfway open on me when I hit the down control if I am not careful......

Re: snap/crackle/pop

My driver's side window makes a popping noise too when operated-- nothing alarming sounding, but not quite as smooth as one would like. Anyway, it's done it for 3 years now and nothing bad has come of it-- neither the noise has changed nor have the windows fallen down. The previous owner of my car did have the regulator replaced at one point. So I assume it's likely I have the new design. Perhaps it just needs adjustment??

In a disconnect of speakers thread, a person said he took off a panel, made the disconnect and reinstalled all in 15 minutes...so it can't hurt to take of the panel and check out what you have and do a little maintenance at the same time

I have the same problem on my 98 NSX-T. I was planning on lubricating the windows myself this wknd. I read the FAQ sections and in the BOSE Speaker removal section- it gives instructions on how to open up the door. However, the instructions are for speaker replacement.

Anybody have specific info/thread on lubricating the power windows mechanism

TIA

i guess im not the only one with this problem...my driverside rolls up really really slow..but as i tilt the window to the side a bit..it goes up a little faster..will this "dali-racing THINGY" fix the problem? what do i have to do in order for this problem to be solved? and yes my window does make that popping noise as well when its rolling down..

I havent used the fix it things... but i did take my door apart and grease the window. It seemed to help.

I did this just yesterday. Follow the FAQ instructions for removing the door speaker (and do remove the speaker), except leave the window in the up position. Also consult the PDF'd 1991 service manual instructions. On the driver side you'll need to remove the window control box located above the speaker. Once you have the door open, carefully peel back the plastic sheet. Be careful because it tears easily, in fact, mine was already torn. Temp fix: good old duct tape.

Inside the door locate the two aluminum guide rails, one at the rear and one at the front of the door. You need to coat the channel side which of course faces away from you (i.e. faces towards the outside of the door). Smear Honda Hi-Temp Urea grease in both channels. Make sure you coat the entire length of both channels. If your arm is like mine you'll need to access the channels from various openings including the speaker cutout.

It's easy, just take your time. The results are well worth it.
