Ok im driving my car, in 5th gear. and all of a sudden BOOM fith gear pops out into neautral. Second time of only 3 weeks of ownership and the car is only has 24k on it, but is is a 91. How do you read the vin to figure if its in snap ring rang or not? and is this a common symtom of snap rings breakage? and is there a shop in the nor cal area that can do it for a good rate? Thanks

try this... put the car in 1st or 2nd, keep your hand on the shifter, if it moves back and forth than you have a snap ring problem. If you want, PM me your number I have that problem right now and am not driving the car. Maybe we can get discounts to have the tranny fix. In the meantime, stop driving your car.

to find out the tranny number check the nsx faq on this website. Gives a very detailed information on where to look.

i've been quoted $2k+ from Don at Hilltop for repairs and Foreign Affairs in Santa Clara suggested to get a used tranny. Im in the south bay as well.

Yea i talked to don at hill top also, i made an appointment well a "just drop by" on monday to have it inspected, but seeing that you dont even trive your car i shouldnt drive mines niether. yea once i located the transmission number, if its in snap ring range, lets hook up and see if don can give us a deal ya know CUZ IM BROKE. how about your major service and valve adjustments? done that yet?

yea, just did the whole meguires three step cleaner yesterday, and put two coats of wax on it. cuz thats the only car i have for now to drive around. i wish i could put it in hibernation.

Well if you are in snap ring, tow it to a repair shop asap. While the tranny is out, add in new clutch/flywheel and short ring if you have the money. All in all may cost you around 5 gs. 2500 for tranny repair, 2000 for rps clutch, and 900 for jdm short gear.

Seems funny. Sounds like we are all in the Bay Area and we all fell into the category of "Snap ring broke shortly after the purchase".
