Hi every one. Well i am kinda confused, my 91 nsx is runing great no probs but the snap ring worries me. I dont know much about my car but it shifts so so great and no leaks or anything. It has 70k miles on it but like i said no probs no leaks no noise (nothing bad) does that mean that i wond have a snap ring problem and is it true that if i dont have a problem now i may have the snap ring problem aittle later ( or is it already fix?) and so i shouldnt worry about it. Another thing is that when i shift from first gear i have to let the clutch all the way out for it to go and then no problems. So all in all no problems at all I am just worried about the snap ring and maybe the clutch. Should i have the snap ring looked atby the dealer. THANKS Mustafa.

You can determine if your transmission is in the snap ring failure range by comparing the serial number of the unit to the known range of units made that *could* suffer from this problem. The exact info is in the FAQ.

Your dealer can't tell you whether or not your particular transmission will fail, or when it might if it ever does.

Finally - you should always put the clutch all the way in when you shift. Some people may tell you otherwise, but the answer is simple: the clutch has two positions that you should use... all the way in or all the way out. :-)

Thank you for your input. Have you guys seen or heard of an 91 NSX with the snap ring serial that kept on going for ever and nothing ever happened for it ??

The snap ring failure doesn't apply to every car in the range. Like it was mentioned before, if it hasn't broken and you're in the range, there's no use getting it fixed or repaired. However, if you don't want to wait around to find out if it'll fail on you, then you can get it replaced for peace of mind.

There have been cars that are in the snap ring range that have never had any problems.

I would suggest reading up on the FAQ for the snap ring issue. The letter from Mark Bash that goes in detail about this failure might be there, and should answer all your questions and worries.

Check your transmission ID first to see if it's in the range. Over 80 percent of the '91 NSX's are not in the range. If it's not in the range, you don't even have to give it another thought.

The transmission in my 91 is in the snap ring failure range, and I knew it when I bought it at 22k miles. In the past 9 months, my wife and I have put 13k more miles on it (up to 35k now) and have run it HARD in several track events. No problems so far... I may have a good tranny.

Then again, I may not. But, when I bought the car, my attitude was this: If it fails, that gives me an excuse to put in a six speed or a rebuilt unit with short gears.

Hay thank you all so so much for responding to my headache and i'll just not worr about it any more and just drive it and if it break and ok i'll also putt a six speed trany in it and if not then i'll be cool. Like i said the trany functions beautifully and i do take care of my car and i dont even track it lol lol, i baby my car lol. Mine is a 91 red with black top perfect shape in the out. Dont you guys think that all stuck red with black top looks the best? I mean alot of people putt after market stuff on thier nsx's and it just doesnt look like an nsx anymore. I mean i dono what do you think? all i wana do is lower it putt some 18's in the front and 19's in the back with those tan dark oem rims and that'll make it look very cool :
