My '92 is in snap ring range but shifts as smooth if not smoother than any transmission I've ever had including a '95 NSX I had previously. Wouldn't this lead you to believe that any problems associated w/ the snap ring would have shown up by now? Or would you be looking for a backup tranny, just in case.

No.

No.

If I had a car in the snap ring range and never repaired, I wouldn't buy any backup parts. (Remember, some of those cars will never fail.) If and when it shows any symptoms associated with snap ring failure, I would park it immediately and have the upper tranny case and snap ring replaced. Otherwise, if and when it needed transmission work (e.g. clutch replacement), I would have those parts replaced at that time.
