This topic has pretty much been done to death over the years. Try a few searches on old forum topics then post again if you still have questions.

Mad,
If you read the info here and at other NSX sites, you'll find the average cost if you pay for everything your self is about $6000. You might get Acura to pick up the tab on a "Goodwill" basis, but you'll have to talk to your local Acura dealer Service Rep. Good luck.

yes I read the mark bash article but he doesnt mention that it cost $6k to replace man! that's expensive then I rather buy a car that is not in the snap ring range.

$6000 is not reality, if you take the right steps. If you have a car in the range, WITHOUT a broken snap-ring the preventative repair will be about $1500. As Mark stated, it is not recommended that you do that, but that is what it would cost. If you understand the symptoms, and if it happens to you, don't drive the car and the repair cost will be about the same.

The only thing that will increase this cost is while you are in there you will probably benefit from a new clutch, since it requries only a little labor, since the trans is out already, worst case add $1500 for a new clutch to bring it to a total of $3000.

Now if you break the snap-ring, keep driving it, then you could end up basically needing a trans for $6000+.

My car is in the range and my trans is fine at 30K miles. It it breaks or the clutch goes I will do both repairs at that time, otherwise I do not worry about it.

What I did do was negotiate a $2000 discount based on the car being in the range when I purchased it.

My $.02

Actually, it is much less expensive than $6000 to fix the problem. We currently have a special offer on rebuilt transmissions for $1400. Comes with 1 Yr/12,000 mile warranty.
Labor, depending on who you go to, would be around $400-$800.

You can see it on our website here:

As I've just had the work done ( snap-ring, replacement gearbox shell and clutch while we're in there scenario ) I can tell you to the nearest pound Sterling - £3240 - with no help at all from Honda UK.

...or $4684 in U.S. dollars. That's not way out of line, considering that it also includes a clutch replacement which generally runs $2000 to $2400 or so.

The "blueprinting" process as it relates to our rebuilt transmissions is part of the teardown and assembly process. Everything is disassembled and go under a special cleaning process. Some parts are resurfaced, and some parts are specially treated, and some parts are replaced. All specs are checked to be within factory tolerances, and all bearings/gears/moving assemblies are properly packed with grease. The transmissions come with a 1yr/12,000 mile warranty.

The short gears will add $800 to the price of the rebuilt transmission, for a total of $2200.

What does "blueprinting" differentiate this from an OEM transmission? How much with the JDM close-ratio gears?
