Snap ring problems

Is an NSX worth less if it is in the snap ring range, but the transmission has already been replaced to correct this issue?

Does Acura still goodwill snap ring range vehicles in light of the 1997 service bulletin? Please share your knowledge or experiences.

I was told a vehicle was verified as a non-snap ring range vehicle, but come to find out that it is and the snap ring is broken. I am very worried what will come if Acura doesn't honor their service bulletin.
 
Yipes! Sorry to hear you got bit. I hate to say it, but Acura is unlikely to cover it. Even the service bulletin was just that, not a full warranty recall, and that was long ago. But all you can do is ask nicely and see what happens. At a minimum you can probably work out a discount.

You just bought the car. Do you not have any recourse against the seller if in fact they misrepresented the car?

No, not usually. They did for a few years after the warranty expired, but that was quite a few years ago.

BTW, the technical service bulletin (number 93-010) was first written in 1993, and only updated in 1997.

If a snap ring is broken and the car is still being driven, the repair could become a lot more expensive, as noted in Mark Basch's advice here.

A service bulletin is only advice to the dealership. It is not the same thing as a warranty.

If this is your car, get it fixed. You can ask the dealership if they can assist you on a goodwill basis, but don't be disappointed if they don't. Your car is ten years old and its warranty expired seven years ago.
 
seeking recourse is my first plan of action, but this is an individual and not a dealer. The Acura dealership seemed confident that they would take care of it, but I have read the contrary on this website.

I don't think there is any other damage to the engine as it runs perfectly.

This also depends on how the problem was corrected. Some repairers have been known to just replace the snapring alone. You will have to check the vehicle's records for this. If it is done correctly as per MB's post than the value of the car is not affected.

Smoothaccel is exactly correct. And - just in case it's not clear from his post - replacing the snap ring alone, without replacing the transmission case, leaves the car susceptible to the problem all over again.

The snap ring problem does not affect the engine. However, if it is not repaired immediately, it could result in the need to replace a lot more of the transmission than just the snap ring and transmission case.
