Driving the car yesterday I noticed if I let the gas out in second gear the shifter moves towards nuetral almost 1/2 an inch. Is this the dreaded snap ring?. I checked and my car is in the snap ring range, Has anyone gotten the dealer to fix considering there is a service bulletin {93-010) Is a 6 speed tranny just a bolt on or does it require adaptations?

Oh man - you are begging for the ultimate Forum Natzi spanking of all time. I think you listed every single "most common search phrase". Only way it would have been better is if you had asked if there was a FAQ site here and what wax to use.

Do a search and look at the FAQ's and all your answers will be revealed!

Ok - I am feeling nice so let me help you out a little:

<a href="http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Troubleshooting/transmission.htm">Snap ring explination</a>

<a href="http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Performance/gears.htm">6 Speed Conversion and more snap ring info</a>

<a href="http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Reference/tsb/93-010.htm">Acura TSB showing how to check your snap ring in less then 15 mins</a>

If you do a search on any of these you will get a wealth of information. Consensus is that Acura is no longer offering any help. Even at 50% help - it is no bargin and you would be better off contacting the vendors for pricing on a rebuild (in alpha order):

- ACR Motorsports
- Dali Racing
- Factor X
- Science of Speed

Good luck

No problem - my post was all in fun. Actually the "Nazi" helps more than anything as he always posts the most pertenant links for everyone.

Either way - remember - the search is your best friend!

BTW - if it is your snap ring - don't drive any more on it! It can probably be fixed with just a new 1/2 transmission case.

Also - might be time to think about getting that new clutch, new JDM gear set, new 4.23 or 4.55 R&P, new featherlight flywheel, and upping the differential torque specs!

The only problem with the 6 speed is that you HAVE to replace the clutch with the new single disk clutch, it is much more $$$ then the TypeR transaxle (gears and R&P) in a rebuilt 5 speed box, there are much fewer options for the clutch, future clutches will be more expensive, and they weigh more.

Take a look at the gear link above and look at the various options before you decide. You may also change your mind when you see the price.

I would definately write:

- Alexander at ACR Motorsports
- Mark at Dali Racing
- Chris at Science os Speed

and get some opinions. Good luck. If you do buck up for the 6 speed and the newer clutch I am sure you will love it so either way - you win!

BTW there is an active thread <a href="http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum24/HTML/000370.html">here</a> as well that you might want to check out!

Miami,

Sure sounds like the symptoms of a snap ring. As Nick mentions the TSB describes how to remove the large bolt/cover to check it very easily. If you jack the car up on the drivers side only, and remove the rear wheel, you can remove the cover and check without even draining the oil from the trans. You will get a few drips, no biggy.

In regard to the six speed you will need clutch/flywheel/and lock-out selinoid for a complete conversion.

EDIT: oops, Nick mentioned that too

Thanks Larry, I am checking prices now for the 6 speed conversion, this just happened yesterday so i have some time. I will also look for a used 6 sp

Armando, sorry about your troubles. Nick had great advice. Your snap-ring sounds like it has already broken, which means that there are bits of metal swimming in your transmission now. The chance of saving the gears from damage decreases exponentially the more you drive it. On a personal note, I prefer the 5-speed as it's cogs are spaced better. You can see the options we offer here:

Sorry to hear what happend. If I remember correctly, your nsx has like over 100k miles and your snap ring is just now showing its ugly head. Do you know of anyone else to go as long as you with out seeing any problems? Do you think your BBSC has anything to do with it? I have a 92 with 54k miles and it was replaced some time ago. Good luck and please post your feelings on whatever you choose.

I choose not to choose how about that?

I could find many other things to spend that money on, but oh well another project to hide from the wife

. Although that it would seem logical that all that extra horsepower might have something to do with finally breaking the weakest link in the transmissions chain. Yes my car has 114,000 miles on it as far as the BBSC having anything to do with it I wouldnt know, maybe some of the wrench heads on here could answer that for you. I am leaning to the 5 speed with short gears and new clutch, still pricing everything out.

Armando, I am very sorry... I had that nice experience a couple years ago. Not funny at all for an unplanned investment

(PS: I watch the wingwest parts you sent me evryday, I go in the garage and I place them near the car, ... my GF thinks I am completely crazy. Am I? :confused

I think you are right and we are all nuts. And it sucks about the tranny but what can you do, what is killing me is the down time. It looks like about 3 to 4 weeks before I ge the car running again. At least Ill get to put nt he short gears and a new clutch.

I did my snap ring + short gears + ring & pinion myself about a month and a half ago. Its not nearly as tough a project as its made out to be, but I own an import repair shop, and have a Honda veteran tech that works for me. Feel free to email me and i'll give you a few ideas of what to expect.
