Smartshift question

I just found out that my car had been installed a Smartshift and it was set at 6400RPM while the factory setting is at 7800RPM.

1. At what RPM, should one set to have full advantage of it without causing damage to the engine?

2. What is the advantage of setting below or above the factory setting?

3. Should the switch 8 be ON (steady mode) or OFF (Blink mode)?

Apparently the Smartshift is a warning system that lets you know as you approach the reline so you don't bump up against the rev limiter. If I needed one I would probably set it as close to the redline as possible. At this point in my NSX ownership I mostly just use my ears.
