need to find out on how to replace a cluth slave cylinder. went to acura dealership and they said it will cost me almost 1000. i have a clutch fluid leak and they said i have to change the master cylinder and the slave cylinder as well. i read the post it might just be a seal. how to replace it? i don't know. it also said it will take 10 minutes to change. thanks

Which post was that? It doesn't appear to be sound advice - there are no replaceable seal kits for the NSX cylinders (& even if there were, lot more work than 10mins!)

If you search, there are at least a couple threads that have pretty detailed instructions on how to do this - as Brian suggests, the Master is more awkward (as opposed to more difficult) than the Slave. I would recommend you replace both at same time.

You can buy the parts to replace both for ~ $175 - wish you lived near me, I'd love to take that job for $1000!

If you want to drive up to seattle, I just did slave/master/hose for a prime menber for way less than 1k!!..the local dealer quoted 675$ ..1k seems way out of line!!...(I did it for less than the 675$ dealer quote parts and labor)

I replaced my slave due to slow leak. It was very easy and it works fine. If you have basic tools and jackstands it should take about an hour or two to do the slave only. Be sure to ask whomever you buy the new slave unit from to include a new rubber ring. As the other members have suggested you should replace the master too. I did not replace the master and it works fine.

I would highly reccommend buying the speed bleeder.
*Speed bleeder: One man bleed valve system. Built in check valve simplifies a messy two-person job.

Part # SB8125L 9mm x 1.25 *This replaces the clutch slave bleed bolt.

*Note: They, (Speedbleeder store) was slow to ship my speedbleeder. Just call 'em and ask to ship ASAP!

I'd also recommend replacing the flexible hose that attaches to slave cylinder at the same time. Many times it is the culprit for leaks.

It's a pretty easy DIY as others had suggested here. It would be a great weekend project.

Hugh: i forget how it looks up there now.... is it easy to access and swap out that flexible hose?.. if so.. i may want to swap it out for preventative measures..

It's pretty straightforward. There is a spring clip where the flexible hose attaches to the soild line that secures the assembly to a mounting flange. It could be a bit tricky to get at. You can see what I'm talking about by standing on the driver's side of the engine compartment and shining a flashlight on it. It is 4 to 5 inches directly below the coolant reservoir. I think my mechanic used a long flat blade screwdriver to pry it out. However it should be pretty accessible with the car on a lift. Getting the clip back in was no problem.

I would definitely recommend using a Speedbleeder because it took us forever to re-pressurize the system doing it the old fashioned way since a lot of fluid was lost during the replacement (we should have plugged the end of metal clutch line after detaching the flexible hose) and the reservoir is small and it has a long way to travel before reaching the slave cylinder.

If you decide to replace it, contact Al Terpak & get one of his SS hose replacements complete with adapter ends - very nice components!

thanks guys for the advice. i called up the dealership and compained about the quote they gave me and thanks for the prime for giving me tremendous advice. he actually went on line and went to nsx prime. he saw the responses you guys gave me. thanks again. we compromise a figure of 705. out the door. he'll replace the master cylinder, cluth slave and the hose. i wish i have time to replace it myself. i work for las vegas convention and god knows how hectic my schedule is. again thanks for your help. anyone who needs a day pass for CES please let me know in advance.

Still seems a little high price wise. Mine died about 4 months ago about two hours from home. I had it flat bedded to the nearest honda dealer which was about about 5 miles away. The parts were about the same (175 or so for both slave units). About $300 for installation so just under $500 for all. Seems to be a pretty come failure point for honda cars in general.

mines went out a couple months ago..went to the dealer bought the slave cylinder for around $150, and took it to a local shop, they installed it re-bleeded the lines, and changed the fluid for $65.
