No I dont mean in my Pants even though I'm currently 235 lbs.
I was noticeing that My drivetrain has some slack in it compared to Eddies 91 with half the miles. I'm currently at 79,500 miles.
Its that light clunk clunk noies you hear when you step and release on the gas quickly at low speeds in a higher gear!
Anyone else hear this or have experience in the matter!
Thanks for all the expertise!
Trev in Edmonton, where its finally green!!!

I've always wondered about this on my car. Mine's a '91 with 122000 miles. Can you tell whether it's the rear end, or the transmission, or something else?

This is probably one of two things. Gear lash in your R&P, mine has 37K miles and I can here it now and them, especially on and off the gas as you describe under load. I do not really consider it an issue.

The other thing is if it is a true mechanical clunking you should inspect all motor mounts especially the front and rear mounts. Check for oil leaks that may have gotten oil on the mounts and softened them up. If they are dry, loosen the long cross bolts in both the front and rear mounts, start the engine and rev it a few times to resettle the drivetrain in the mounts then retorque them to spec.

This has cured many "clunking" NSX's:).

yes, gear lash!

Yes, I was thinking of this gear lash thingy!
Mine definately is not a clunck, i just used those words to get things going. Lets use slack slack! Its less harsch!

Mine just rolled 50k and I have this at very low Rpm's when lugging the car. I has always sounded somewhat natural to me.

Yes that was the same clunking sound that I've heard from my car when I start accelerating from slow. Now with the new Tein coilovers and the new steering boot I don't hear the clunking sound anymore.

Jin1976 - Perhaps that was a little different than what we are experiencing here. Ours is when you press and release the gas and back and forth like that. Like jerk, jerk, jerk! Hehe, that sounds like me!
Whats is a steering boot by the way!
Thanks so much

Have any of you tryed putting the car on a jack with both wheels (rear ) of the ground and then by hand rotating the wheel fwd and backwards????
Is this the sound ???

I hear that sound. I also hear the "Clunking" sound when accelerating as well as when coasting to a stop. I have 1 '95 NSX with 78,000 miles. I also have the 4.55 R/P. Any ideas?

It was. When I come out from my driveway, I've heard that clunking sound and when I slow down I heard that sound again. This only comes out at a very slow speed eg. when you are moving your car from stop. The steering boot is the cover on your steering rod or something (I don't know what it is called) and it looks like the drive shaft boot. Mine got torn and I couldn't wait for the NSX's ones to come in so I substituted it with the Civic's ones. They are about the same size but the Civic's one has about 8 folds compare to the NSX that has 7 folds. The boot doesn't cost as much as the drive shaft boot only about USD10.

experiencing the same problem - well I thought it was normal for a higher mileage car. Its like their is play in the transmission or differential.

I hate the sound so I take the car out of gear when slowing down and keep a steady speed in traffic. :-)

Yep, I did just tonite.
With trans in gear, I can rotate a tire 5/8" of travel, measure on the circumference of the stock 91 rear tyre. Each side is the same.
The drive shaft turns with the wheel.
So the slack is in the Trans, no doubt.
Just need a cross sectional of the drive train to see where this all could be happening. Unless someone wants to tells us!!!!
hehe, I think its more fun for the knowledgeable to watch us skwerm.

It is simply gear lash in the differential gears, no big deal:).

Mine has 37K miles and I have this sound. I solved it by buying a Tubi:cool: LOL....................

Lash?

I guess this lash was an option on Canadian cars!
I wish the original owner didn't order it!
