Sideview mirror mod idea

I'd like to very slightly, like 1-2 inches, lengthen the arms on which the side view mirrors rest, a la Ferrari 288 GTO. Not so much that Ralph Lauren could pull up next to me and call me derivative, but just a little. I think it would make the car appear lower and more aggressive without changing the overall aesthetic. I'd liken it to a breast lift on a 50 year old...people wouldn't even know why she looks better...just that she looks better.

Here's a photo to refresh your memories:

It would have to be seamless, easy to install, and, if need be, reversible.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

Or should I follow my mantra about "the enemy of good..." and all that?

I'm going back to the garage,

I think it'd look out of place/not match the NSX. Unless theirs a automotive artist that can draw up something that'll nicely follow the lines/flow of the NSX, I'd just leave it alone.

But then again, I hate 90% of the bodykits, side skirts, fake wings, etc... out there that are un-functional and gaudy.

Those mirrors only belong on the classic 255GTO and nowhere else. The NSX mirrors are fine and provide excellent view. Why change them  Agree to note above, they will not flow with the NSX lines.

Just wait for the SuperGT style mirrors from GT-Rom. I hope they finish them soon. Btw is that your kid in the avatar10blade? She reminds me of the famous actress from down under Naomi Watts.

Nah, go all out and remount them to the upper pillars, ala late 1980's Testarossa. The gaudier the better.

Yeah, that's my girl. Good thing she looks like her mother.

One of the guys that works at the local Porsche dealer got this car on a trade in and he bought it for his personal use. It's fully loaded with Comptech goodies and the previous owner had the door mirrors shaved and F355 mirrors mounted. [edit: not Tesarossa, but F355 mirrors]

It doesn't look too bad, but I wouldn't do it.

If you seriously want to raise the mirrors with an OEM look - check the mirrors on the Pontiac Soltice - they appear to have that approximate "raising" from the OEM NSX mirror.

I hear ya. I've always thought that the mirrors were one of the parts that were pulled TOO closely from the Prelude/Accord/etc. For the record, I hate bodykits, too, so I'm a purist.

I'd love to see what something like that looked like -- probably not as much as that divine 288 GTO, but an extra inch or two of "boost".

Cool idea.

I would love to see a nicely designed two arm mirror like the testerossa's made for the nsx. At Nsxpo I was behind a few cars and the mirrors just look too close to the body of the car.

Don't have photo at the moment, but Mike "Bikevil" put 2007 Corvette mirrors on mine for me. He had to modify "build up base slightly, they look great.
