hello, my side vents are rattleing crazy,,, i tried to put like piece of sponge or paper on the gap, but doesnt hold,,, do you guys know how to take the vent out? thanks.

Jack up your car, take off the rear wheels, take off the rear inner fenders. Its a VERY tight fit back there, I dont care what size your hands are. As I recall, there are 2 nuts in the front you will have to break loose by prodding with a flat head screwdriver. Once you get them loose you can remove them by hand. I believe there are 2 small philips head screws on the rear as well. Its not a bad job, just a tight fit. Good luck :)

I was just about to post this question as one of mine rattles a bit.

I just replaced my side vents with mesh last weekend.
Getting to the intakes is tight but not too hard of a job.

NSXnBRLA's instructions are right on.

Side scoop vent is held in place by 4 screws.
- If you look at the vent from inside the wheel well
- on the side closest the sheet metal, 2 small
regular head screws will be facing you.
- carefully remove screws
*** DO NOT DROP SCREWS INSIDE SCOOP AREA ****
(you'll find out why if you do)
- The next 2 screws are phillips head and are a pain to get to.
A small mirror will help locate them. 90 degree screwdriver
or similar tool will be necessary to remove those screws.

that's it. Vent should fall out.

Just a hint.....

Instead of using a screwdriver like mentioned above to get those 2 "funky" nuts that hold the whole vent assembly in.

I used a 7/8" or 22mm 12pt box wrench, slipped it over, got them lose. Then spun them off by hand.

Took a minute or two, while my friend was yelling obsenities for 10 mins trying to get them lose.

How in the hell did you get a 22mm socket back there... i had a tough time with that bottom one. Used an EXTENDED length flat head screwdriver :)

Just tighten or Gasket the gap?

So do you think we can just tighten the screws to stop the rattle or do we need to take the vents off and install some sort of gasket material to take up the gap that is causing the loose rattle?
Thanks so much

Ray, mine is the red vent

Ray, mine is the red vent that is rattling.
The black insert or grill is secure.
I can see the little plastic nibs on the vent if I look through the rear wheel well. Thats after removing the rear wheel and a few screws in the wheel well skirt.
I suppose a person could apply some rtv silicone from behind and let it set. No one would ever see it.

if it was me, i would remove the vent completely..... take a look for wear marks that all the rattling probably have left in the paint, and try to isolate what exactly is causing it. if you cant figure it out, atleast it will be out and you can apply some sort of gastket to keep it from doing it in the future, and learn a little more about taking your car apart :-P

djjoonie,
Go easy on the plastic pushpins (the reuseable rivets) that connect the inner wheel well to the body. I have a 1991 and a lot of those things started self destructing. After all they are 13 years old.

I found a good source a daliracing.com if you need to replace any. A dealership wants $5.00 each! Can you believe that Sh_t!

Good Luck.
