I have seen a couple of modified NSX's with aluminum side scoop mesh inserts -- anyone know if anyone sells these as an aftermarket part? Also anyone besides Dali that sells a similar mesh stone shield? Thanks....!

This is just too easy to do by yourself - the hardest part of the whole job is removing the side scoops (& that's not hard either once you know how to do it) which you have do regardless of whether you're buying pre-made mesh inserts (don't know that anyone actually makes the inserts alone) or fabricate them yourself. Perhaps there is a seperate part # for the Zanardi screens vs the plastic ones on the non-Z cars.
Once you remove the scoop, remove the plastic grille & then fit a piece of mesh around the opening & secure it with the original screws. Mesh, paint & snips all available at Home Depot!

Yeah, I figured I'd do it myself if there were no other existing kit options. BTW, on your side skirts (WW?) is there any way to make the lower scoop functional, i.e. for cooling brakes, or does it just end up inside the fender liner like the upper one?

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Reference/1991_svcman/1991servman.pdf - enter page 885 in the field at the bottom that says 1 of 1420 - this will show you what you are looking at but not very good illustration really.
Jack up the car, remove the rear wheel on the side you want to remove, then remove the fender liner (or at least open up the front part to gain access into the fender well.)
There are two "special" nuts, (item 7 in the illustration) - look/feel like a gear cog sort-of: you just need to feel around until you find them - the diagram shows you approx where they are. You are supposed to be able to loosen these by hand, but if they have never been off before, that might be hard - there's not much room in there and you can just get your finger & thumb over them. On one of mine it was impossible to move - a 22mm box wrench fits over it & we cut the shaft to make it short enough to work.
First time it is awkward until you get it out & see what you are looking at - afterwards its a snap!
Good Luck!

WOW!!!!! I just looked this up - the mesh Z parts are $285 EACH! list vs $51 fr the std. plastic one - mesh must be made of platinum!

cut Box wrench

D'Ecosse,

Would you still happen to have the modified box wrench???? I've had a hard time trying to take these nuts off by hand a while back. I ended up putting the liner back in place dissapointed. :(

Unforunately no Steve, it wasn't mine - it was at Phong's brother's shop in San Jose.
For the price of the gas to get it though, you could probably just pick up a cheap single wrench & cut it to leave about 3" on the stem.

Only disagreement I have with this process is there is no need to glue - there are 4 screws holding on the original plastic grille & you can secure the mesh using these with no glue required - this allows for reversal if desired later (for re-sale or change of mood or whatever ....)
