Hello, I am trying to remove the side air vents, I cannot figure out how to remove the special nuts. I have already see the diagram and cannot figure out how to remove them. Is there an easier way?
I got a great tip from a body shop guy when we were discussing a quote on a friends car - he suggested that if you push on the flat part on the outside (in the general location of the nuts) that will make it easier to loosen them - makes perfect sense!!!!!!
Contrary to Detlef's suggestion of a long wrench, I had previously resorted to a cut-off 22mm box wrench (about 3 - 4" long) to accomplish removal of one side which was too tight to loosen by hand (wish I'd known about this trick above then) - I think short is better than long, don't know how you could work a long one in the space.
Both ways are possible, but I dont wanna cut off a box wrench.
In the upper part of the fender is more place for the hand, so its quite easy to turn.
To push on the flat part on the outside is possible, but with this trick I wasnt successfull.
Reason: Small parts oxidation at aluminium nut and bolt
I was able to get mine off. I suggest you remove the plastic vent portion from the insert from inside the fender well first, it will give you a little more room to work. Be patient. I have slender arms and it was still a job. I used a small pair of needle-nose vise grips and clamped them on the aluminum nut, and was able to turn them just enough to loosen them by hand...
