Should I sell my 92 to get a salvaged 95??

I have come across a good deal on a front end damaged 95 NSX. The damage is not bad, but the car has a salvaged title now. The car is priced where I could take everything off of my car and put it back to stock and put all of my mods on the 95 and fix the broken pieces and not loose any money. What I would loose is a clean title for a salvaged one. What I would gain is a targa and when I would repair the front end I would use 2002 headlights. So essentially I would have a nicer, newer ride.
What do you think?? Pros and cons?

IMHO, a very bad trade. A clean '92 for a salvage '95? No way. Remember also that the 95-96s are heavier than the 91-94s but with the same engine, and therefore slower.

SND,
The '95 is the last year that I would consider owning for the fact that it is the first year they chopped the roof to go with the Targa top. My understanding is that they didn't get the subframe modifications just right and the car has more flex than other T years. The mention of the additional weight is another obvious detraction. If you have a solid '92 coupe...hang on to it! Just my opinion.

I agree.

Getting a salvage title in trade for money or a newer car isn't that great of a deal.

If YOU WERE going do it (which I wouldn't recommend) I'd certainly want something more in exchange than a 1995 car. I'd want a 97.

A salvage title is nothing but a piece of paper from the state. If you've taken it to a reputable shop and have made certain there is no structural damage at all...who cares????? Unless YOU care about resale price or collecter value. I'm not saying I would do it...but to do it ONLY cause of that salvage title may be silly. If you plan on keeping it forever - big deal. Where is the car? I would totally get a salvage title nsx if it was cheap enough and in good enough shape. Who cares what anyone says. If you want the targa, go for it. If you are concerned about shady shops or value of the car..skip it.

I would stick with the 92 instead of going with the 95.

Although you calculated that you could break even if you traded one for the other, there is no guarantee that you wont find some other problem with it and end up spending thousands more later.

Aside from getting a T-top, I dont see what else you would gain from all the work.

If I do the swap I would gain the targa(which I do like). I would also gain the 2002 headlights, so essentially my car would appear 2002(very cool). I have a buyer for my car in stock form except for the body kit, for 35000.00. I can buy the 95 for 25000. I would then have 10000 to spend to fix the car. I have access to a very good body shop and replacement parts would run about 7000. and paintwork, 3000. All of my engine mods, including transmission, would be swaped over to the 95. I would also trade my interior and stereo over. The 95 has less miles than my car and is in great condition other than the wrecked front end. Resale value is not my top priority, but I dont want to have 40000. in a car that I could only get 30000 for. I think the the car would be fine once it was fixed I'm just a little leary.thanks

being from the car biz, i can tell you that anycar with a salvaged title is worth about 25% of black book value. I would definately not do this trade if i were you, because i the end you will end up with a worthless automobile.
