Should I do clutch with engine mounts & header replacement

I have worn engine mounts I am about to have my mechanic replace and thought it would be a good time to also upgrade my '92 to headers at the same time and change the exhaust to RS-R.

I have ordered all the above parts, but I have also bought a new OEM clutch/flywheel/TOB and I was guessing that a lot of the labor would already be done to get into a clutch replacement as well. I really just bought the clutch to have on hand when the time time came that I needed one.

Now my clutch is not showing signs of being worn out in any way, but my car has 121K and no records. So the clutch may be original or only have 30K on it, I really have no way of knowing.

My thought is that I already have the parts and if it would only take a LITTLE more work to put in the clutch then maybe I should go ahead and do it now.

So my question is this; how much more work is required to replace the clutch if the entire exhaust is off and the engine mounts are being replaced??? Or does none of this other work really come into play or help with a clutch replacement.

There isn't really much in common between the two jobs other than the lower two motor mounts. Typically the front motor mount is the one that fails. It takes more of the load due to the design location. The rear mount is located much farther from the center of the crankshaft and so has a mechanical advantage over the forward mount and as such doesn't take the loads that the forward mount gets.

If your clutch is working fine I would run it out. There is no way that it is the original clutch, in fact it may even be the second replacement.

Something that you may want to do is replace the boots and grease on your CV axels, at least the one on the passengers side. It tends to get a lot of heat from the exhaust on the inboard joint. If you see any grease on the engine block or around the inboard joint it is now a "have to do". You don't want to have to replace a NSX CV axel $$$$$.

Why wouldn't it be on the original clutch?

Perhaps I'm better than the average person when it comes to clutch wear, but from my other cars, my clutches lasts well past 150k miles.
like it seems for a lot of parts on the nsx, they are much more "fragile" than the average car

+1000 on the CV boots. There cheap and even though they may look good, that grease is weak from heat.

Thanks for the great input, I'll have my mechanic give the clutch a good look again and just wait if it seems OK. As for the CV boots on the passenger side, it was one of the first things I did, along with a lot of other items too long to list here. Love these cars, plan on keeping like a wife... until death do us part.

Which wife? Ex/current or future?

My clutch had 125K on it when it was replaced. It only slipped a little if you shifted quickly(could have been the damper). I could have gotten 10-20K more miles out of it I suspect.

I replaced it with an RPS and Comptech damper eliminator since I was swapping out the trans anyway(snap ring defect).

How is that new tranny and clutch working out for you Ed?

Working out great. The lightweight flywheel makes a noticeable difference in the first two gears. The pedal effort is more than stock but not bad. I just drove it to Sunnyvale and back yesterday(2 hours each way) and it drove like a champ. I still get giddy when I drive it. :)
